Bash report 25/04/2024:

Well, this mobile bash had some returns to MUD2. We welcomed back Hawumph the onomatopoeic arch-wizard, after a lenghty hiatus. Also present was Jamesbond the necromancer, doing his first mobile bash in over a decade (he would say later he greatly enjoyed his first bash in 15 years or so).

When the bash officially got underway, the following were present:

*who
Hawumph the onomatopoeic arch-wizard
Firedemon the dark wizard
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Zedar the bash-general necromancer
Rob the complaining warlock
Dedfish the swordswoman
Jamesbond the necromancer
Dara the necromancess
Cenedra the lovely mage
Lowfields the necromancer
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Joined by Jamesbond, bash participants Zedar, Rob, Dedfish, Dara, and Lowfields ventured out into The Land while Cenedra and Drizzle stayed in the tearoom to offer moral support. Similar to the previous week, Dara disposed of the fox, the scorpion, and the piglet early on.

The man and the thief were taken down in the pine forest, and Dara fought with the bison. Soon the bison went down. The bison had been one of the final three mobiles in the previous week's bash. Later on, someone else, not wishing the ending of this bash to be a similar story, took down one of the other final three from the previous week's bash, the spider.

Dedfish defeated half of the watersnakes, and then joined Zedar and Jamesbond to take out the other half.

Dara managed to use a prepared explosive to take down one of the giants, but not before having to deal with five goblins who fought with her. Afterward, she disposed of a number of goblins, though the chickens proved elusive, some hiding in small rooms.

Lowfields took down a giant or two. After giant3 fled from Lowfields, Zedar pursued it and dealt the finishing blow.

After finishing off the drake, Dara left the area while the others finished off the cows.

Dedfish took out most of the north mountain area mobiles (snowbird, pony, and such) and then teamed up with Zedar and Jamesbond to fight in the evil wood.

Dara took out ape0, and many of the other apes got upset about it and took out their frustrations on each other. Dara would find ape5, ape2, and ape4, and take them down.

Meanwhile, Jamesbond, Zedar, and Dedfish teamed up to take on the vampire and the wraith, and brought them down while Lowfields finished off goblin32.

Dara and Lowfields finished off the giant snake, and then worked together to take down the tiger. Lowfields had to flee while Dara dealt the finishing blow, but Lowfields would go on to deal with the mobiles on the upper floor of the pagoda.

Rob fought with the dwarfs in the dwarf realm, including the king and queen, and Zedar arrived to assist with the surlies.

Sealife was a problem. More than once, mishaps occurred at sea when attempting to take down the sharks. There was rain, and there was the time Zedar ended up fleeing from a shark. But soon, the sealife was sent to the bottom.

Dedfish found the ox and disposed of it.

As the mobile count went down to 12, there was WHing and shouting. Stag, swan, boar, zombie7, and others were left. Dara took down the boar, and arrived while Dedfish and Rob were fighting the stag (Dedfish with the billhook, Rob with Valetant, and Dara with the rice flail). The swan was also disposed of.

The lion spawned, and was sighted in the center of the graveyard along with the summoned skeleton0, both of whom were taken down by Rob.

Rob also fought with the monk, which was one of the last five mobiles remaining.

With the wolf and the golem (and bee0) the last mobiles left, there was a search for wolfsbane. Rob found it and went to the wolf, and bee0 was taken down. With golem the last one remaining, there came the meditating with Dara and Dedfish helping.

The golem went down, and the mobile bash was successful with 28 minutes to spare. Rob kindly left the icons and the keep treasure in the hut for any who wanted it.

And so this bash was a success, thanks to great teamwork in many areas. We'll have to wait and see what awaits us in the weeks to come.

The mobile bash for May 2, 2024 started off quickly after over a half dozen players arrived at the start of the set. Almost instantly, giants opened, meaning this was going to have an extra challenge. When the bash started, the following players were around.

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Sibylla the voyager
Snypster the warlock
Dedfish the sorceress
Lowfields the necromancer
Dara the necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage
Rob the bash-general warlock

Rob was named bash-general this time around (Zedar, who was voted bash general in at least two consecutive bashes, was absent this week). Dara ran into the thief early on, and decided to give players relief from the grief caused by the thief. Dara also took care of the fox, the coot, and the scorpion before attending the bash's first and only pillar use.

Dedfish took out the stag and the raven and some other surface mobiles, including the banshee (with the help of an invisible warlock). Lowfields at some point got rid of the bees.

Dara disposed of a zombie or two on the way to obtaining something explosive, which was tossed into giant1's location. After that, Dara, Lowfields, and Dedfish went to work in the area around the giants' house, clearing out a great many mobiles. Many goblins, as well as chickens, fell in the events that followed. Highlights included Dara and Dedfish against the cows. Lowfields, meanwhile, was fighting giant3 when Dara joined in at the right time to speed up the fight. The giant fled, but the two players were quick on the re-attacks, and soon THIS happened:

The giant3 misses you.
You hear sinews tearing, as Lowfields the necromancer hits the giant3 with his
two-handed sword.
You have killed the giant3.
(Persona saved on +278 = 42,524).
The giant3 has just passed on.
*Lowfields the giant-killing necromancer makes some magical gestures.
Lowfields the giant-killing necromancer has just left.
*s
Stony ground.
It is raining. You spot a shiny, silver nugget down by your feet. Glinting in
the light is a shiny, silver nugget.
*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Sibylla the wayfarer
Snypster the warlock
Dedfish the sorceress
Lowfields the giant-killing necromancer
Dara the giant-killing necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Now that Lowfields and Dara earned their giant-killing prefixes, Dara went south and into the giants house, where she ran into a goblin and giant2. Unfortunately, Dara had to flee from giant2, and Lowfields finished off giant2 without her. Dara was able to eat a leftover wafer to recover stamina, and then headed off to the apes area to fight with ape0.

Rob and Sibylla did keep, with Sibylla helping to get past a certain puzzle obstacle and earning the prefix 'uplifting'. Rob managed to complete the fight with the maiden without any crows summoned or taking much damage.

Meanwhile, Sibylla took down the pike, just as ape0 went down. Dedfish fought with the watersnakes. Dara finished off the north mountain mobiles while the distant RHOAAAUUUAURRRRGGGGGGHGHHHGHHHH let everyone in The Land know that Rob had dealt with the dragon. Rob went on to start dishing out damage in the dwarf realm. Helmsman, meanwhile, joined the bash effort and requested a prefix (since everyone else had one at this point), resulting in this who list.

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Helmsman the mayonnaise warrior
Sibylla the dragonfly-slaying, uplifting rover
Dedfish the cow-clobbering sorceress
Lowfields the giant-killing necromancer
Dara the giant-killing necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage
Rob the dragon-slaying, bash-general warlock

The apes had gone crazy over the events of the bash, and some took out their frustrations on each other, with apes 5, 6, and 7 fighting apes 1 and 4. Dara would later find apes 4 and 5, weakened from these fights, and finish them off. Dedfish, however, lost her magic when fighting the man and spent much of the remainder of the bash without magic.

Lowfields, meanwhile, took on and ascended the pagoda, taking out the mobiles on the upper floor. Dara tracked down the man, who had survived the earlier fight which cost Dedfish her magic, and finished him off. Helmsman, meanwhile, led in taking out the remaining goblins.

Rob fought with the ghoul while Dara dealt with the swan. At this point, there was a lot of WHing to determine which mobiles we'd missed. Giant0 was still around, and so was Zombie7 in the west tomb, the surly dwarf guards, and a few other dwarfs. With this in mind, Dara rushed to the dwarf citadel to help out in dealing with the leftovers.

Dara was greeted by the old female dwarf40 and female dwarf34, the latter of whom challenged her to a deadly game of poker. But Dara triumphed over her adversary, and joined with Rob and Sibylla to take down the surlies.

Dedfish found the longsword and used it to fight and defeat the last remaining water-snake. Sibylla and Rob disposed of the ogre. Rob and Sibylla went to sea to take on the sealife. After Rob rid the sea of the jellyfish, there were eight mobiles left: Giant0, Skeleton0, wolf, giant snake, spider, moth, tiger, and golem.

After the wolf disturbed The Land by loudly baying AAAOOOOOOHHHH, the wolf was disposed of. Dedfish took out the giant snake, with help from Lowfields wielding a bucket.

Helmsman, meanwhile, fought with the spider but greatly underestimated the spider and its poison. He had to re-enter The Land, and with some help from Sibylla, dispatched the spider.

Lowfields fought with giant0, but was forced to flee. As a result, giant0 was worth 909 points. Dara, however, rushed into the area while the giant0 was still critically injured, and successfully brought down the last of the giants. This left only 3 mobiles remaining. Skeleton0, the tiger, and the golem.

Rob summoned the skeleton0 to the hut, and five players (Rob, Dara, Dedfish, Helmsman, and Sibylla) made short work of the last remaining undead creature in the set. Soon, Lowfields, Dara, and Helmsman (and an invisible Rob) hunted the tiger and brought it down. And so the golem once again was the last mobile remaining.

Dedfish spammed meditation, and Rob went into the golem's chamber to fight with the golem at the 32 minute mark. With 31 minutes remaining in the set, the following happened:

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Sibylla the uplifting rover
Helmsman the poisoned hero
Dedfish the cow-clobbering championne
Lowfields the giant-killing necromancer
Dara the giant-killing necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage
*You feel as if a tremendous evil has been rid from The Land! No pawns of
darkness sully it with their presence. The relief of generations of souls
floods through your being!
(Persona saved on +3,000 = 47,552).
*sv
0 alive, 294 dead.

With no less than six active participants throughout the bash, with pagoda and giant area both open, and with 31 minutes remaining, the bash was a success. Icons and other treasures were left in the hut for others to collect before heading back to the tearoom for the post-bash chat. Dedfish headed to the touchstone, and thankfully survived and recovered her lost magic.

Epilogue/Aftermath:

There was a bit of experimentation afterward that caused the overgrown forest/roc nest area to open, as well as another ape to appear, but most of us didn't feel like going back out. The bash had already been successful, after all, and you only get the 3k bonus reward once per set. So we stayed in the tearoom, talking about the bash and the highlights of it. Helmsman's fight with the spider and Lowfields' encounter with giant0 were talked about, and Rob noted how the monk got in the way again for the second bash in a row.

We also spoke with Heiach about the possibilities of other events besides the bashes. One idea that came up is the 'treasure bash', where we seek to find and swamp all the treasure in The Land. But that's a subject for another thread.

In the meantime, this was a fun and successful bash. We'll have to wait and see what future mobile bashes might hold for us. In the meantime, others are free to add their observations, and point out any details I missed.

This was the first time Dedf1sh experienced the problem of 'running out of magic', and found herself fully expecting to get obliterated by the touchstone after getting through the bash (surviving the touchstone twice!? ).

The Man seemed to have the same idea, turning himself invisible and unilaterally departing the fight (without fleeing) shortly after this mishap, with all the exaggerated unviewable swagger of an invis muser untouchable by mere low-stamina fighters, knowing that Dedf1sh would end up meeting the same fate as most Champion(ne)s soon enough anyway.

Despite having this sense of foreboding looming over her during the rest of the bash, Dedf1sh didn't let that dissuade her from putting her all into the bashing effort - and was pleased about finding the longsword (it was in the rocky pit this week). Her lack of magic also didn't prevent her from stumbling upon the moth - in fact, it actually helped, as she found it whilst looking for the Snugglepuss, which (unbeknownst to her due to a lack of WH) was already dead. And so, the bash concluded, and Dedf1sh, knowing her time was up, opted to go out in style.

She was pleasantly surprised when she found herself still alive (albeit at the cost of an amazing punchline) - making this the first time she survived a bash without dying any stupid deaths or death deaths.

Granted, she promptly decided to throw some science against the wall, making her way over to the pagoda to enter the coffin to see if any Strange Things would happen - in turn earning herself a stupid death by returning to monke in the name of science. Of course, Strange Things ultimately didn't happen, but she at least made the pagoda ape-free again afterwards.

The mobile bash on Thursday May 16, 2024 began with the following:

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Dara the sorceress
Zedar the warlock
Dedfish the sorceress
Drizzle the wobbly mage
Sibylla the pioneer

Sibylla would not stay, and Blitzen would show up later.

When the bash began, some of us encountered some of the more vexing mobiles early on. According to Dedfish's own account of the start of the bash, Dedfish had an amazing start to the bash - instantly getting ambushed by the vampire, and having to flee (but ultimately getting blocked by the vampire anyway upon trying to leave the area, eventually qq-ing and re-entering The Land around Dally Lane). Zedar was able to kill the Vampire.

Meanwhile, Dara had encountered the thief at the upper floors of the inn and decided to get the thief out of the way early. As she finished the thief off, it was announced that the vampire had been disposed of, but the wraith was still around.

*(Zedar the bash-general warlock) shouts "v dead".
You have just been woken up!
Your stamina is 55.
*A female voice in the distance cheers.
*(Zedar the bash-general warlock) shouts "but the wraith guards your items".

The wraith would not be dealt with until MUCH later in the set. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. While Dedfish rested and recovered, Dara disposed of the fox and the piglet. Meanwhile, Dedf1sh grabbed the mallet and proceeded to bash the dove and the boar, but very nearly got killed by the stag (stag-gering away on only 8 stamina!)

Zedar was able to come in and finish off the stag, whilst Dedf1sh tried to sleep off the pain in the cowshed. Zedar would move on to fight the basilisk. Having finished with the bees in the maze while the stag fights were happening, Dara moved to the cellar to fight rats. She would later join with the others for the pillar event before heading back to the cellar to rid it of the rest of the rats. At this point, Blitzen had joined the bash.

(updated screenshot with who list including Blitzen goes here - Snypster has not arrived yet)

Dedfish found the beetle and managed to kill it. Dara ventured to the dragon island and fed the dragon the item that would result in the delayed reaction death, as pagoda opened.

According to Dedfish's recounting of what happened, Dedfish and Zedar valiantly fought the ram, but the ram managed to bamboozle Dedf1sh as it unsuccessfully attempted to flee. Dedf1sh opted the best thing to do now would be to venture into the scriptorium and kill the hunchback. Great success!

Zedar, meanwhile, reported that the ram had been finished off. Dara ventured into pagoda area and fought with ape0, causing ape0's followers to go their separate ways and, unfortunately for them, have a rather brutal falling out. Dedfish went into the villa to kill the snugglepuss and nab some t, however, upon reaching the swamp, the banshee saw an opportunity for some easy points - and Dedfish narrowly escaped on 14 stamina.

On the bright side, this happened soon afterward.

*In the distance, you hear the terrible RHOAAAUUUAURRRRGGGGGGHGHHHGHHHH of a dragon dying.

The bash is going well

Zedar announced that the mine was flooding, as Dara fought with the pony. Dara finished off the north mountain mobiles and went after remaining apes, taking out ape2 and ape9. Then fought with monk. When Ape8 went down, the following message was sent throughout The Land.

*For your information: there are 75 mobiles still alive.
*reset
You wake up!
Your stamina is 81.
Time-stamp: 21:48:01 on 16-MAY-2024.
This is reset 115570, using slot 0.
An auto-reset will be initiated in approximately 57 minutes.

Not long after this, Zedar announced he needed some help finishing off skeleton1 in the gorse. Dara rushed to assist him, and skeleton1 was so overwhelmed it just fell apart.

Dedfish, meanwhile, found herself a shiny new pickaxe, and ventured under the well to start mining some uhh snakes. Zedar, meanwhile, invaded the dwarfs.

As Dara fought with the giant snake, Zedar announced that he had to flee from the dwarf king and queen. However, with help from Blitzen and intervention from a certain other, the king and queen were disposed of before they could enjoy their expanded power too much.

Zedar finished off the surlies, and Dara soon used up the last of her wafers fighting the tiger. Dedfish soon announced that the watersnakes were done.

Blitzen decided to attempt the touchstone, and Zedar offered to leave some treasure in the hut in case Blitzen failed.

*Zedar the bash-general warlock shouts "if the ts is unsuccesful, there is
treasure in the hut afterwards for you to get a bit back".
*who
A female voice in the distance shouts "anyway under well is done".

The others wished Blitzen well, but unfortunately THIS happened:

(Zedar the bash-general warlock) shouts "Blitzen noooooo!".

*obit
No-one above novice level has died in a fight this reset.
The following non-first-game players have died to the touchstone this reset:
Blitzen the champion, short of luck by a very small amount.
*A female voice in the distance shouts "nooooooooooo!".
*(Zedar the bash-general warlock) shouts "Condolences buddy.".

(screenshot optional)

At least Blitzen had the means to bounce back, with the aforementioned treasure in the hut and some other means. Dara, meanwhile, had her own difficulties with the man. She had to flee from him earlier, and needed the help of Zedar in the rematch.

Diabolus Ex Machina

Things were looking good in the bash, and it seemed all the players needed to do was WH the mobiles that had eluded us. There were 30 mobiles left with 25 minutes left to go.

But then our team of mobile bashers were presented with a Diabolus Ex Machina (the evil opposite of a Deus Ex Machina, where something comes out of nowhere to make things WORSE for the protagonists instead of better) in the form of the giant realm opening.

*In the distance, you hear the terrifying sound of rock splitting!

*sv
83 alive, 214 dead.
*reset
Time-stamp: 22:19:47 on 16-MAY-2024.
This is reset 115570, using slot 0.
An auto-reset will be initiated in approximately 25 minutes.
*who
Seifer the smokey wizard
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Snypster the warlock
Dedfish the sorceress
Blitzen the surrealist champion
Dara the dragon-slaying sorceress
Cenedra the lovely mage
Zedar the bash-general warlock
Drizzle the wobbly mage

(screenshot optional)

To be clear, the giants realm opening isn't really a problem if it happens at the start of the bash or within the first few minutes. Then all the players are ready to take on the several extra mobiles (including but not limited to the giants themselves), and can do so with careful planning. But when giants realm opens late in the bash, when there's 30 mobiles remaining and 25 minutes left to go, then things get a lot more awkward. The late arrival of Snypster had accidentally caused the giants realm to open, providing the mobiles with unexpected reinforcements.

(Oh, and redwoods also was opened up, but the wizzes intervened and decided to take down the redwoods mobiles themselves, since the late in the set opening of giants was enough of a raised difficulty level for the bash).

The previously optimistic mood changed, and now everyone was doubtful that they would be able to take down the additional mobiles before time ran out. However, we decided to at least try our best. On a brighter note, Blitzen made it to champion again and this time was able to use the touchstone and survive.

At this point, it was a race against time. Dara had an accident carrying explosives, and had to log back in and fight fissure goblins. The explosive in question was brought back by a generous wiz, and Dara was able to use it to blow up a giant and goblins in the shrine area, but not before having to fight a group of goblins the old-fashioned way. Dedfish joined in with that fight.

Dedfish also helped Zedar with the spider, and killed it, then managed to qq and re-enter before the spider's poison finished her.

As time was running low, there were shouts about wounded giants, while Dara fought with more goblins with eleven minutes left to go. Heiach offered an extension for the time limit. Zedar Wh'ed zombies, finding 27, z9, and z3 (the latter two in graveyard, while zombie7 was still in the mausoleum). Zedar finished off the wraith (which was still around after the vampire was taken out at the beginning), and Heiach announced that giant2 was very injured.

Dara found giant2 seriously injured, and fought to finish it off. She did so, and used some wafers found in the vicinity to help recover. It was also announced that the wolf, the swan, and the stegosaurus had been among the 30 mobiles that remained before giant area opened. Dara finished off another goblin while they (and the aforementioned zombies) were being dealt with.

The valiant efforts of the players managed to get the mobile count down to 39.

*reset
Time-stamp: 22:42:58 on 16-MAY-2024.
This is reset 115570, using slot 0.
An auto-reset will be initiated in approximately 2 minutes.
*sv
39 alive, 258 dead.
*sh 39 with 2 minutes left...
You shout "39 with 2 minutes left...".
*sleep
ZZZzzz...
*Zedar the bash-general warlock shouts "with a possible extension...".

Dedfish fought with the zombies that were roaming the graveyard, and then the ghoul. And then we had the extension.

*Auto-reset initiated, you have 120 seconds to finish up. No further warnings
will be issued!
*The impending reset has been postponed by 900 seconds. It will now occur in
1020 seconds' time.

*n
Zedar the bash-general warlock cheers.
*cheer
You cheer.
*Zedar the bash-general warlock shouts "thanks!".
*A female voice in the distance shouts "pizza tower - it's pizza time".
*Zedar the bash-general warlock shouts "ichthyosaurus".

Cows and chickens in the area not far from the giants house were soon taken out. Dara and Helmsman (who had shown up around this point) would finish off the bull. Soon, some people were going back to doing what they were doing before the giant area opened up - namely, WHing to find out which mobiles were left.

Zedar the bash-general warlock shouts "z7, wolf, swan, stegosaurus, spider,
phoenix, octopus, mongoose, mammoth, ichthyosaurus, ghost, coot, ammonite".

Dara discoved the ammonite in the hut and disposed of it, leaving 16 mobiles left. With 5 minutes left, it was a rush to see how many could be taken out. The swan was fought. Dedfish took out some leftover dwarfs.

In the end, though the players made a valiant effort, the bash ended with 7 mobiles (including golem) surviving. The set came to an end, and everyone ended up in the tearoom.

Post-bash thoughts and wrapup

Despite the fact that technically the players did not succeed in the goal of the mobile bash - namely getting rid of all the mobiles in one set - the mood was still pretty good in the post-bash meeting. Everyone generally agreed that we gave it a good effort anyway.

Things got in a festive mood afterward, with holiday or party decorations and champagne brought to the tearoom and everyone being temporarily given festive prefixes.

*Heiach the festive wizard waves.
*Blitzen the festive sorcerer exclaims "See you all soon!".
*>P>S>H>H>H>T!
Folly the festive necromancer has soaked you in a spray of champagne.

All in all, an amazing bash with some twists and turns that helped to illustrate how no two sets - and in particular, no two mobile bashes - are alike. One never knows just what may happen, and that's part of the fun. Who knows what might await players in future bashes?

In any case, that concludes the writeup for the May 16, 2024 mobile bash. As always, participants can feel free to post their notes and observations.

Special thanks to Dedfish and Zedar and their notes (some of which were directly quoted in this writeup), as well as Dara's notes.

Bash report 23/05/2024:

The bash for Thursday, May 23, 2024 began with a few participants from previous bashes missing. Heiach had already stated he would not be present, so he was not overseeing the event. We were also missing Seifer, Sybilla, Snypster, and a few others. Dedfish, unfortunately, had an unpleasant run in with a longsword-wielding exceptionally large goblin10 in the intervening week, and was replaced by Spamton.

Zalagar helped out at the beginning by handling the bash general vote just before the reset that begins the bash. First, for a change of pace, Zedar was appointed bash admiral instead. With that done, Zalagar headed off, and the bash began with the following who list.

*who
Dara the sorceress
Highfields the necromancer
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying swordsman
Zedar the bash admiral warlock
Drizzle the wobbly mage

With Drizzle staying in the tearoom to make sure the tearoom was free from dustmites (or whatever), that left Dara, Highfields, Spamton and Zedar out in The Land. With the bash officially underway, Highfields went to get rid of the bees right away. Spamton was attacked by the ram early on, and Zedar assisted Spamton in dealing with it. Dara, meanwhile, fought with the stag with the assistance of Highfields, and some of the other mobiles near the deerpark. Highfields encountered the truffle-seeking boar and took it out.

After Zedar came to Spamton's rescue in the aforementioned fight with the ram, Spamton slept, obtained the GLOW, and proceeded to beat up some fireflies and a dragonfly, before being greeted by a raven quothing Poe and flying off.

Spamton killed some flies, found a pike, and then got ambushed by the goat. Unfortunately, he found himself fleeing from the goat, according to the account from Spamton's unpaid intern. The pike would be seen later on in the bash, but the goat was soon finished off by .. I'm not sure who. No one said who brought the goat down.

Anyway, the basilisk was taken down with Highfields' help, and after Dara disposed of the fox, the pillar event was set up. Dara would then go on to face the scorpion and the piglet, and end up having no real use for the phial she was carrying around for much of the set. The spider was let loose, but Highfields disposed of it before Dara could use it, and the other mobiles with poison were taken out as well. The wyvern was long gone by this point, having been taken out by Zedar.

Zedar did rats and fought most of the keep mobiles. A few crows escaped, and would have to be dealt with later in the bash. Speaking of birds, Dara caught the magpie and told the parrot that there was no time to talk, this was a bash.

Meanwhile, according to Spamton's unpaid intern, Spamton spent some time looking around for a weapon, eventually finding a falchion, and promptly used it to get into Il Castellare, with all the swagger of a successful door-to-door salesman who just found out a surefire way of not having a door slammed into his face by an ungrateful customer, and promptly dealt with the snugglepuss.

Goblins, thief, and giants

Highfields took down many of the goblins in the fissure area and the great cavern area, including the aforementioned exceptionally large goblin10, the whistle-carrying goblins 28 and 29, and the goblin30 blacksmith and his assistants.

Dara, meanwhile, encountered the thief and the pike at the river near the rapids, and fought with both of them. It took a while, and a use of some spells, but soon both the pike and the thief were finished off. Dara then rid the area near the railway line of many zombies. The spider, at this point, had been dealt with.

Dara then managed to get an explosive into the area 'before shrine', and used it to take out giant1. She then went in and fought with the goblins and chickens. Highfield, meanwhile, took down some more goblins and the drake, while elsewhere Zedar had fed the dragon.

Having taken down several of the other mobiles in the area, Highfields ventured into the giant house and fought with giant2. Dara joined in and the two of them soon earned the 'giant-killing' prefix. The scene below, from Dara's viewpoint, tells how that fight ended.

*You attack the giant2, using the staff0 as a weapon.
*You hit the giant2 (5-9).
The giant2 looks close to death.
The giant2 hits you (77/120).
*You hear a slicing sound, as Highfields the necromancer hits the giant2 with
his two-handed sword.
You have killed the giant2.
(Persona saved on +327 = 24,337).
There is a giant, golden ring here, set with a firestone.
The giant2 has just passed on.
*cheer
You cheer.
*Highfields the giant-killing necromancer has picked up the iron bowl.
*Highfields the giant-killing necromancer cheers.
*Highfields the giant-killing necromancer has just left.
*Zedar the dragon-slaying, bash admiral warlock cheers.
*sv
101 alive, 194 dead.
*who
Spamton the swordsman
Dara the giant-killing sorceress
Highfields the giant-killing necromancer
Zedar the dragon-slaying, bash admiral warlock
Drizzle the wobbly mage

I'm splitting this in half for easier reading. Second half begins with Water-Snakes, dwarfs, and others.

Bash report 25/04/2024, Part 2 of 2:

(continued from above)

Water-snakes and dwarfs

Dara would go on to the swamp to fight with both the hunchback and the banshee, and Zedar joined in to help finish off both of those mobiles. Spamton, meanwhile, was fighting the water-snakes, and one water-snake in particular was giving Spamton some trouble.

*A male voice in the distance shouts "THIS [[water-snake5]] IS BEING A TOUGH
COOKIE".

Spamton embarrassingly found himself having to flee from water-snake5 twice. After eventually killing the last of the water-snakes, Spamton looked around for a better weapon, found a promising-looking pick, and charged into battle against the ghoul. It didn't go too well. The second attempt went a lot better.

Zedar, Highfields, and Dara, meanwhile, ventured down into the dwarf realm after the mine flood. In the dwarfen hall, femaledwarf34 and others challenged the intruders to a game of poker, but lost. Dara took down the stocky dwarf guards and the hefty dwarf guards, and managed to get three wafers in the process. Zedar took down the burly dwarf guards while Highfields dealt with more of the other dwarfs. Dara would be joined by Highfields in fighting the dwarf king and queen, and soon afterward, dwarf flags were lowered to half-mast.

Dara and Zedar took down the thickset dwarf guards in the dwarf treasure chamber, and then fought with the surlies. Zedar used a number of UNFIT spells over the course of the bash, and this fight was a close one for him. Both Dara and Zedar won the fight, while some wafers were used up.

*Zedar the dragon-slaying, bash admiral warlock says "...Zedar stayed on 22
health against the surly. After failing a TRIPLE unfit".

With the surlies gone, it was 21 mobiles with 36 minutes to go.

Evil wood, sealife, and the rest

At this point, it was the evil wood mobiles, the sealife, the golem, and some mobiles on the surface the players had overlooked before. Two crows were left over after the keep was raided earlier, and Dara and Highfields made short work of them. They both had the same idea to go after the swan in the man-made lake, but after that business was concluded, they joined Zedar in fighting the vampire in the evil wood. Here's how the fight with the vampire went down, from Dara's perspective:

Your spell worked!
You emit a bright magenta flash of light.
You have suddenly and magically become fitter!
*You hear a slicing sound, as Highfields the giant-killing necromancer hits
the vampire with his two-handed sword.
You hear a dull thud, as the vampire hits Highfields the giant-killing
necromancer with his unlit brand7.
The vampire makes some magical gestures.
You emit a dark green flash of light.
You have suddenly and magically become less adroit!
*Highfields the giant-killing necromancer looks quickly at the vampire.
*Highfields the giant-killing necromancer makes some magical gestures.
Highfields the giant-killing necromancer emits a bright blue flash of light.
*You miss the vampire.
The vampire misses you.

*u

(Persona saved on +118 = 26,258).
*unblind me
Your spell worked!
You have suddenly and magically regained your sight!
*Zedar the dragon-slaying, bash admiral warlock has picked up the coracle.
*Highfields the giant-killing necromancer has picked up the bucket.
*n
Zedar the dragon-slaying, bash admiral warlock has just left.
*nw
Highfields the giant-killing necromancer glances around.

Yes, the vampire is definitely one of the tougher mobiles in The Land, and working together as a team to bring him down got faster results than if one of us attempted to solo the vampire (which is gamer speak for 'fighting it alone'). Zedar and Highfields would soon bring the wraith down as well.

Zedar and Spamton would venture out to sea to fight the sealife, and Spamton grabbed the longsword en route to the shark. Highfields joined in with the shark-slaying, and soon Zedar announced the sharks were dead. There were now 12 mobiles left to go.

*Zedar the dragon-slaying, bash admiral warlock shouts "jellyfish and whatnot
still out there somewhere but im gonna blow up a giant, z".

Shortly after that, the jellyfish went down. Spamton helped Highfields with the skeleton in the mausoleum, and proceeded to destroy the bookcase in the cottage to kill zombie8. Dara brought down the pony, and Highfields and Dara took out the snowbird. With the giant0 brought down explosively, we were down to six mobiles with 18 minutes left, and then five mobiles. At this point, people began to WH the remaining mobiles.

*wh sk0
1 in the place known as "vertical staircase".
*wh ox
1 in the place known as "small altar room".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "man 2nd floor".
*wh
A male voice in the distance shouts "keep".
*wh
A male voice in the distance shouts "sk,sk,golem,ox + man THATS IT".
*wh sh
A male voice in the distance shouts "OX IN SMALL ALTAR".

Skeleton0 was soon located at the bottom of the stairs east of the cannon room, while skeleton1 was in the upper areas of the mine near the side passage and the platform with the shed. Zedar rushed to deal with sk0, and asked for a magical unfit assistance against sk0, which Dara provided. Sk1 was found at platform, and was attacked by Highfields. After being able to hold it together the whole set, sk1 just fell apart.

The Golem

This left only the golem to be dealt with, and the golem is difficult to reach, requiring three different people meditating in three different spaces so that one of them can go in and fight the golem.

Dara, Zedar, and Spamton proceeded to do so, and it was expected that Zedar would go in. However, there was an exclamation of surprise, and we realized someone had gone in who wasn't expecting to be the one to confront the golem.

*A male voice in the distance shouts "i waited 6 seconds ".
*wh spamton
Your spell doesn't find any.
*sh Uh oh.
You shout "Uh oh.".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "okay lets focus on solving this".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "SPAMTON G SPAMTON FIGHTING THE BIG ONE".

Indeed, in a surprise twist, Spamton (then a hero) ended up in the outer sanctom. According to Spamton's unpaid intern, Spamton was just as surprised as everyone else when he found himself face-to-face with THE GOLEM.

Spamton was the lowest-leveled of the bash participants, and was probably the least prepared. But there were still three of us left in the mainland, ready to med another person in. We then got another surprise.

Zedar the warlock tells you "ready to med?".
*Zedar yes
You tell your listeners "yes".
*who

Spamton the hero
Dara the giant-killing necromancess
Highfields the giant-killing necromancer
Drizzle the wobbly mage
*med

*med
You feel as if a tremendous evil has been rid from The Land! No pawns of
darkness sully it with their presence. The relief of generations of souls
floods through your being!

Drizzle the wobbly mage
*A male voice in the distance cheers.
*A male voice in the distance shouts "very good bash all, very well done".
*A male voice in the distance yodels "Well frombled!".

Indeed, with some thanks to the longsword he nabbed along the way (and the breastplate someone else left him out of pity), Spamton managed to survive his battle against his newfound metal foe. The bash was successful with three minutes left to spare.

Spamton, meanwhile, found himself in the embarrassing situation of being marooned on the vicious rocks, but luckily Dara was there to lend a pointer to help him get back to dry land. After swamping the icons and some remaining treasure, everyone headed to the tearoom for the last minute or so.

And so everyone spent the last minute chatting along with Drizzle. Transcript of the post-bash chat follows, copy-pasted from Dara's viewpoint:

Dara the necromancess says "Well, that was a good bash.".
Highfields the necromancer agrees.
Auto-reset initiated, you have 120 seconds to finish up. No further warnings
will be issued!
Drizzle the wobbly mage screams.
Zedar the warlock says "It was a good one aye ".
Zedar the warlock screams.
Drizzle the wobbly mage asks "Did you use up all of your spare knees?".
A male voice in the distance cheers.
Spamton the superhero has just arrived.
Zedar the warlock says "Beeps at the ready. I'm off at the reset my brother
wants me - but I will be placing notes. Unlikely I can make next Thurs".

*Drizzle the wobbly mage beeps "BEEP".
*Drizzle the wobbly mage beeps "BEEP".
*Something magical is happening.
(Persona saved on 29,623).

I don't usually post too much from the post-bash chats (usually I just summarize them), but I thought since this was short enough, I thought it'd be a fun way to wrap up this writeup. In summary, the players finished the bash with three minutes to spare, and pagoda did not open at any point during the bash. It looks like the pagoda mobiles decided to take the week off.

This was indeed a fun bash, with a nice twist at the end with Spamton and the golem. As I said at the end of the previous week's writeup, no two bashes are alike. Every bash ends up telling its own story. Who knows what stories will be told by future bashes?

Special thanks to Spamton's unpaid intern, who practically co-wrote this writeup, and to Zedar and Highfields who supplied more information. All in all, an incredible bash.

Mobile Bash 5/30/2024 writeup

The Mobile bash for May 30th, 2024 began with the following participants:

(screenshot of who list from start)

Heiach the chimerical wizard
Helmsman the sorcerer
Spamton the superhero
Highfields the necromancer
Dara the necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Once the bash was underway, everyone got going. Dara disposed of the fox, and met another mobile not far away and made short work of it, thus making it clear that this bash would NOT be moving at a snail's pace. Dara would follow up by ridding the bash of the piglet, the scorpion, the raven, four fireflies, and the magpie.

While all this was going on, Highfields got rid of the bees and, despite being tired, was voted bash general.

Spamton, meanwhile, was the non-muser of the group. As a result (according to the notes from Spamton's unpaid intern) Spamton grabbed a necklace on the way to obtain GLOW, but it got nicked by the thief shortly afterwards. However, armed with the staff he grabbed beforehand, Spamton decided to retaliate (and killed a dragonfly and a parrot as well in the process).

Helmsman joined in the retaliation, but the thief fled - however, Spamton chased down the thief and got his revenge.

Dara, meanwhile, encountered zombie8, while Heiach gave weird prefixes to everyone.

(screenshot of later who list with strange prefixes)

(from Dara's perspective)

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying, dragon-slaying, giant-killing, doomed,
surrealist, rat-rustling, dwarf-dispatching, zombie-zonking, spamming superhero
Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer
Dara the explara necromancess
Helmsman the mayonnaise sorcerer
Drizzle the wobbly mage
*You hit the zombie8 (10-14).
You have killed the zombie8.
(Persona saved on +38 = 30,412).
A woodsman's old axe has been left within reach.
The zombie8 has expired.
*get axe
Axe1 taken.

Spamton, after sleeping and recovering from the previous fights, went after the ram.

Highfields took on the basilisk and did not let sudden noises stop him from dealing the final blow. While Dara was confronting the cellar's rat infestation, Highfields announced a pillar party, which the rest of the bash participants attended.

(Meanwhile, someone was doing some mischief with the prefixes. Especially in regards to Spamton. To keep this writeup flowing, I'll have more detail in an 'appendix' post.)

Afterwards, Dara and Helmsman returned to the cellar to deal with its rat problem. Spamton ventured into the underground stream/river/lake area to take on the water-snakes, despite being given ridiculous prefixes and postfixes.

Helmsman fought with goblins while Dara ventured to the north mountain area to fight with the snowbird. Highfields showed up in the midst of this, having already disposed of the pony. Dara used a parasol (kindly provided by Highfields) to return from the north mountain area (since the pagoda was not open), and joined Highfields at the keep.

The Keep, and the mobile count reduced

Highfields took out the wyvern and spectre, and Dara and Highfields joined forces to defeat the griffin. Elsewhere, the wolf let out a loud AAAOOOOOOHHHH as it was taken out of this bash. At this point, there were 89 mobiles left, with 75 minutes remaining.

After Highfields and Dara defeated the maiden and crow0, they went their separate paths, with Highfields taking out coot while Dara hunted down the stag and the boar. By this point, the prefixes had become more sensible.

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Spamton the watersnake-wrangling superhero
Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer
Dara the explara necromancess
Helmsman the dragon-slaying, mayonnaise sorcerer
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Well, almost more sensible.

Anyway, Helmsman was having trouble in the evil wood, and Spamton stumbled onto the ox, before getting attacked by a particularly displeased billy goat. In Spamton's own words, "Spamton eventually managed to locate [[The Big One]] The longsword and promptly proceeded to beat up zombie2".

Speaking of zombies, Dara found and took down zombie4, and kept the well-maintained pick2 to use as a weapon in the dwarf realm.

Meanwhile, Helmsman to beat up sk1 and proceeded to sleep before getting back to his initial plan of beating up The Man. Helmsman and Spamton proceeded to beat up the not-so-defenceless old man around the swamp, which was a bit trickier than expected with him turning invisible frequently.

Helmsman and Spamton then teamed up for further adventures (killing the vampire, the wraith, several goblins including the Exceptionally Large one, and the ghoul).

Dara entered the dwarf citadel and fought with dwarfs. Highfields joined in the fight in the dwarf hall. Dara then took down the stocky dwarf guards and Highfields took down some other dwarfs. After the hefty dwarf guards went down, there was the following announcement.

Heiach the chimerical wizard shouts "only 30 left!".

At this point, there were 52 minutes remaining in the bash. Highfields and Dara fought with the burly dwarf guards, then the dwarf king and queen.

Just as dwarf flags were being lowered to half-mast, there was an incredibly loud >*B*O*O*M*< from elsewhere in The Land as Helmsman had a mishap. But Helmsman bounced back from this, and dealt with the snugglepuss.

Once the thickset dwarf guards were taken care of, there were 16 mobiles remaining, with 44 minutes left in the bash. Highfields and Dara took out surlies, while Spamton and Helmsman fought sealife, including the difficult to spell ichthyosaurus.

The Final Fifteen

Dara, meanwhile, found a use for that phial she'd been carrying around when she fought with the spider (who is often one of the last 15 mobiles remaining). After Dara shouted to The Land reporting "Spider slain!", Highfields shouted WH reports on remaining mobiles.

*Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer shouts "sk0".
*Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer shouts "yes, i still shout
wheres".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "[Dinghy] WITH [1CarefulOwner] ON JETTY
[For the Low Low Price Of]".
*Your magical strength has worn off.
*For your information: there are 5 mobiles still alive.
*In the distance, you hear a low, reverberating sound.
*Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer shouts "sk2 deadundead".

Spamton, by this point, had trouble seeing the jellyfish, but in the end disposed of it and shouted reports of its demise (which were NOT exaggerated).

*A male voice in the distance shouts "Spanking sk0 currently, shark1 and jf
still alive.".

*A male voice in the distance shouts "[INVISIBLE [REDACTED]] SLAIN".

Highfields made it safer to go back into the water by ridding the sea of shark1. Dara and Highfields spotted the viper near the middle mountain/bank of river area, and Highfields was prepared with a phial. Dara and Highfields disposed of the viper, and Dara shouted "Viper gone, that leaves sk0, golem and one other!"

There were only three mobiles left at this point. Helmsman was fighting sk0, and Spamton soon joined in that fight. Spamton's unpaid intern initially thought this would be a bad idea in hindsight, but it turned out that it was actually a very very good idea because the skeleton died.

*A male voice in the distance shouts "SK0 HAD [A Bad Time]".
*It has stopped raining.

A male voice in the distance shouts "[Sleeping up] BEFORE [Profound
Meditation]".

Now there was just one other mobile besides the golem remaining. That one mobile turned out to be the dove, which Highfields discovered via WH was at the high altar. (Spamton's unpaid intern believes there may be a metaphor there somewhere). Once that was out of the way, everyone could give the golem (and how to reach it) their undivided attention. After Spamton, Highfields, and Helmsman went to various places to do their part, Highfields went into the inner sanctum, and soon afterward, the golem fell with the big announcement that the bash was successful.

So after some otherwise unclaimed icons were swamped, most everyone returned to the tearoom, where Heiach wrote down this bash's time on his scoreboard and archives. This bash was successful with 24 minutes to spare. There was no pagoda, giants, or redwoods opening at any point, meaning that tough mobiles such as the tiger, the giants, and the smilodon were no-shows this week.

The time of the bash, according to Heiach's record.

(screenshot of Heiach's scoreboard goes here)

30/05/2024 - 24 minutes left (Helmsman, Spamton, Highfields & Dara)

All in all, a successful bash, and the first one we've had in the past few months without either the pagoda or the giants. As I like to say, each bash is different, and each ends up telling a different story. We'll have to wait and see what stories future bashes may tell.

Special thanks to Spamton's unpaid intern for contributing portions of this writeup, and to Highfields and Helmsman for further clarification.

Appendix for the Bash writeup of 30/05/2024

Well, this bash was a fun one, and as usual I'm glad to do the writeup. Sometimes, however, one runs into events that are difficult to go into detail without slowing down the overall report, and thus one might have to just give brief one-line statements about them and move on just to keep things moving. But some of these things are still worth going into more detail, so here's the Appendix to the above bash report.

Dara got briefly stranded in the North Mountain area after Highfields offed the pony, pagoda wasn't open, and she didn't SITE beforehand. Highfields also had a SITE related mishap.

Highfields the necromancer says "yeah, sorry for killing your pony".
Highfields the necromancer grins.
Zalagar the wistful witch smiles.
Zalagar the wistful witch says "Fortunately, you were nice enough to give Dara
a parasol to make up for it.".
Highfields the necromancer nods.
Highfields the necromancer says "i typod my first site, so couldn't
resite after killing the bees. took the scenic route out of the maze".
Zalagar the wistful witch says "Ah, I think I'll note that in the Appendix,
where I also go into the prefix/postfix mischief in more detail.".

Dara was grateful for the parasol, and quickly rejoined the rest of the group.

Earlier in the bash, there was some prefix and postfix-related mischief. I alluded to it in the writeup, but there was more than just the one highlight I showed.

In the writeup, I shared the following who list.

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying, dragon-slaying, giant-killing, doomed,
surrealist, rat-rustling, dwarf-dispatching, zombie-zonking, spamming superhero
Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer
Dara the explara necromancess
Helmsman the mayonnaise sorcerer
Drizzle the wobbly mage

However, this was only the beginning of the prefix mischief. It grew and evolved from there.

(feel free to add screenshots of the who lists with the prefixes)

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying, dragon-slaying, giant-killing, doomed,
surrealist, rat-rustling, dwarf-dispatching, zombie-zonking, ape-attacking,

skeleton-scattering, spamming superhero
Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer
Dara the explara necromancess
Helmsman the mayonnaise sorcerer
Drizzle the wobbly mage

And just when you thought it couldn't get more ridiculous, postfixes got into the mix.

(feel free to add screenshots of the who lists with the prefixes and postfixes)

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying, dragon-slaying, giant-killing, doomed,
surrealist, rat-rustling, dwarf-dispatching, zombie-zonking, ape-attacking,

Drizzle the wobbly mage

Needless to say, this got more than a bit crazy when other players encountered Spamton during this point in the bash. Dara contributed this log portion of the time she passed through the underground stream area on her way to the north mountain area, and saw Spamton in combat:

Underground stream.
You are negotiating a fast-flowing underground stream, which meanders from the
north to a more straight course southwards. The water is dark, clear and
bitterly cold, and although the walls are smoothed by its abrasive action the
ceiling is wickedly sharp. A slimy, slithering water-snake surfaces in front
of you.
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying, dragon-slaying, giant-killing, doomed,
surrealist, rat-rustling, dwarf-dispatching, zombie-zonking, ape-attacking,
shark-slapping, bird-bashing, wraith-whomping, banshee-boffing,
skeleton-scattering, spamming superhero who really, really, really, really,

really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really likes to spam is here carrying a staff0.
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying, dragon-slaying, giant-killing, doomed,
surrealist, rat-rustling, dwarf-dispatching, zombie-zonking, ape-attacking,
shark-slapping, bird-bashing, wraith-whomping, banshee-boffing,
skeleton-scattering, spamming superhero who really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really, really, really likes to spam is fighting the
water-snake3.

Heiach was quick to realize, however, that these absurdly long prefixes and postfixes (even if they fit what Spamton is parodying) couldn't stay for the rest of the bash, especially if other players were to team with Spamton to take on the tougher mobiles or otherwise interact with Spamton for any considerable length of time. So the prefix craziness was toned down soon after the above Spamton sighting, to the following:

*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Spamton the watersnake-wrangling superhero
Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer
Dara the explara necromancess
Helmsman the mayonnaise sorcerer
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Helmsman, meanwhile, noted that he had lots of trouble with the undead this bash. Plenty of them gathered near the evil wood, in addition to evil wood regulars the vampire and the wraith. He stated that "It was mostly vampire, wraith, and skeletons thatgave me difficulties. Normally they're not nearly so... uh... difficult.".

As for the end of the bash with the golem, Highfields reported "had no idea who medded, just gave an icon to anyone who turned up at the hut after
bash highlight was wh'ing the dove before i had to use the md, which i saved for a later reset."

And at the end of the bash, there was the following:
*who
Heiach the chimerical wizard
Helmsman the sorcerer
Spamton the watersnake-wrangling champion
Highfields the tired, bash-general necromancer
Dara the explara necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Anyway, this concludes the Appendix of the writeup. (This is the Appendix. The writeup for 30/05/2024's mobile bash can be found above).

MUD2 Mobile Bash 6/13/2024

Well, this was an eventful day, as Crazyfool turned up in MUD2 in the set or so before the bash and chatted with many of us beforehand. He would set the bash in motion, but then leave us to our own devices.

So as the bash started, the players involved were:

*who
Spamton the champion
Paine the matriarch
Folly the necromancer
Dara the necromancess
Zedar the bash-general warlock
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Paine and Drizzle offered moral support from the tearoom. Titus would join in later on in the bash, but we'll get to that when it comes.

When the bash started, Folly went right after the bees as soon as he was able to leave the tearoom. Spamton hit the ground running this bash, quickly dispatching of the raven without even grabbing a weapon on his way to obtain the light from the inn. While Dara fought the fox, Spamton smashed the snail.

Dara would fight with the stag, but had to flee. Meanwhile, Spamton reported that the snugglepuss had been taken down.

Strange fights and unexpected occurences

Folly killed two goblins, and Spamton killed a firefly and a butterfly while making several attempts to find the longsword. Dara, meanwhile, rested up and fought with ape0. After finishing off ape0, ape3 attacked Dara. Dara was surprised when she got a surprise assist from ape5, who attacked ape3 during the fight. Once ape3 was finished off, Dara went to the next location north and fought with ape2 and ape7. Ape7 escaped, only to be attacked by ape5 and finished off by Dara.

While Dara was dealing with apes, Folly and Zedar were gradually setting up conditions to make thing safe to do the pillar. Ape5 went down with one hit from Dara due to its not recovering stamina after the above-mentioned fights and probably a few other fights (when asked about this, Dara says "Yes, I know it's ingratitude, but this is a mobile bash."). Dara didn't have that long to dwell on the morality of this, as she had a pillar meeting to attend.

Late to the pillar party

Meanwhile, Spamton had departed the area under the well (on the hunt for a new weapon to replace his rapidly-disintegrating falchion) when he heard about the pillar - unfortunately, the ram had other ideas, getting in Spamton's way, locking him into a fight. Spamton was able to kill the Ram - but forgot where to go for the pointer to the pillar, eventually scrolled up to find out where, but ultimately missed out on his chance to get a buff from the pillar.

So everyone got the pillar buff except Spamton. Spamton was hoping it wasn't a bad omen.

Folly would go on to fight more goblins. After a failed attempt to steal a wafer from goblin29, he fought with goblins 28 and 29, and goblin37 attacked him (unlike ape5, goblin37 remained loyal to his fellow goblins). Folly had to flee from the three goblins.

Dara went back to the snowy north mountain area to finish off the remainder of the mobiles there, while Spamton proceeded to kill the parrot and a random zombie, but found himself ambushed by Goblin38 and his two-handed sword in the rapids.

Having a flashback to a similar situation faced by a previous incarnation, Spamton opted to cut his losses and flee the fight (just after Folly arrived), at the cost of the falchion and mallet he had found along the way. Luckily, he was able to reclaim those weapons, but he had to remain on his guard for more goblins.

Dara, meanwhile, heard the shouts about goblins on the rapids, but was delayed by zombie6. Folly, meanwhile, fought goblin38 at the rapids. Folly managed to win and take the two-handed sword that goblin38 was carrying.

Folly would later fight the vampire and the wraith, and remove them from the bash. Spamton continued his search for the longsword at the idol and the cave, but ended up going to sea. Zedar, meanwhile, fought with sealife and fed the dragon.

Dara returned to the pagoda area and dealt with ape11, and soon afterward the RHOAAAUUUAURRRRGGGGGGHGHHHGHHHH of a dragon dying was heard across The Land. After Ape10 went down, there was 72 minutes remaining, and 150 mobiles left. Spamton, meanwhile, was looking for a seaboat, and attacked zombie0 with a croquet mallet along the way.

Things are booming

Zedar, meanwhile, was attempting an explosive strategy to blow up two giants at the area at the other entrance to the giants realm near the shrine, but was not entirely clear on how to get it to work. Dara arrived and fought with the thief and zombie3 near the shrine. The thief got away.

Dara managed to get the missing ingredient for the explosive strategy and used it, and then while resting up from the fight with the thief and zombie3, heard a loud BOOM! Two giants were now taken out, along with maybe a goblin or two. Meanwhile, Spamton was preoccupied with finding some medicine and then killing the viper he found slithering around.

With the rain gone, Spamton went out to sea and finally found the longsword. Spamton then decided it was then time to get back to fighting the water-snakes.

Folly and Dara fought with goblins in the giant area. Dara had to deal with chickens and goblins fleeing a lot in the goblin dwelling, so finishing them off was very time-consuming. After some more fights, Dara would return to the pine forest to rest up. Folly, meanwhile, had some difficulties with goblin37.

In mobile bashes, you usually have to seek out mobiles to in order to find them and rid the bash of them. But sometimes, if you're lucky, they come to you. And such was the case with the magpie, who happened to wander into the area where Dara was sleeping after a fight with a large group of goblins.

Mobiles who steal weapons

Spamton ventured into the pagoda area, where it turned out there were still some apes roaming about after Dara's earlier confrontations. Unfortunately, the ape4 stole the longsword, and used it against Spamton, who was left with nothing but a rice flail to reclaim his legitimately-obtained prize. Fearing a repeat of what happened earlier, Spamton gave a pre-emptive warning to everyone else:

*A male voice in the distance shouts "LONGSWORD APE IN THE GRASSY AREA!".
*wh ape8
Your spell doesn't find any.
*wh ape9
1 in the place known as "food preparation area".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "[NoMore]!".
*sv
106 alive, 188 dead.
*wh
A female voice in the distance shouts "longsword currently on the floor".

Thankfully, the ape fell before it could do too much damage with the Longsword, allowing Spamton to get it back. Since Spamton recovered the longsword, he left the flail by the great gate and ventured back into the pagoda, hoping not to have a repeat of the Incident.

Dara, meanwhile, finished off the cows, and later met with Zedar. Zedar offered her the choice of the broadsword or Valetant, and she took the broadsword. Dara would then use the broadsword in fights with goblin24 and goblin21 (one of the few goblins that use magic) in the giants' house.

Spamton bumbled around the pagoda, looking for mobiles to kill. Eventually he found ape6, who knocked Spamton down to 50 stamina, ate a wafer, and wandered off. Spamton decided to get some sleep, but there was a discussion going on about flammable containers.

(That discussion was related to another explosive attempt, if it could be made).

Dara, meanwhile, left the giant area and returned to the pine forest. Unfortunately, the thief was still mad about the earlier fight. Dara was caught by surprise when the thief stole the broadsword from her and attacked her with it. Dara had to flee, but after a third fight, it was the thief's turn to flee and Dara reclaimed the broadsword. Dara would eventually finish off the thief after the thief fled several times.

Meanwhile, Spamton went back into the pagoda, and managed to kill ape6 this time. Titus at some point joined in the bash, and so did the octopus in the sea.

Around this point, there were 75 mobiles left with 31 minutes to go. Dara fought with the stag, while not far from the deerpark the man and the boar were having a fight. Dara would later finish off the boar and chase the man all through the garden area (and it wasn't easy, as he was invis a lot of the time).

Pagoda and dwarfs

Cloudburst the wizard arrived, and popped in just in time to witness Spamton fighting the monk in the pagoda's food preparation area (after giving Spamton the foot and some help). Spamton killed the monk - but the Ape9 decided to avenge the monk. Ape9 knocked Spamton down to 32 stamina - but Spamton managed to pull through and assert dominance over the pagoda's food preparation area.

Dara, meanwhile, managed to find the swan and the dove, and joined Spamton in the pagoda area to fight the giant snake (it seems Spamton was fighting just about every snake in The Land over the course of this bash). Sometime around this time, there was another boom, and later a report that the last giant had been finished off.

Zedar, meanwhile, was fighting sealife, including octopus, with Valetant. A mishap occured, but Cloudburst was in a generous mood that set and recovered Valetant for him. Cloudburst would also supply some people wafers to help those recovering stamina recover it a bit quicker. Meanwhile, Dara and Spamton finished off the giant snake (Spamton was down to 18 stamina, according to Spamton's unpaid intern whose notes provide the basis for portions of this writeup).

Folly, meanwhile, was fighting dwarfs and was joined by latecomer Titus. Together, the two of them fought the dwarf guards and the dwarf king and queen, greatly reducing the count of surviving mobiles. As Zedar started doing WH duty, Dara and Spamton hunted the tiger in the pagoda courtyard and brought it down.

After the fight with the tiger, Spamton rested in the stables. Dara probably should have found a place to rest too, as she was attacked by the banshee in the swamp on low stamina. Clearly she assumed someone had disposed of the banshee already, and found out the hard way that she was wrong. She had to flee. Titus was also attacked by the banshee, and Zedar assisted, and soon the banshee was brought down.

Folly took down zombie8, six of the regular goblins, and the scorpion, among others. Soon the mobile count was down to 10.

Spamton tracked down the coot - but the coot was a pain in the backside to kill this time, hitting Spamton for a bit of damage, fleeing, hitting him again, fleeing, and so on and so forth until Spamton was down to like 42 stamina (when the coot finally died).

Skeleton1 at some point killed the ogre, for it was seen carrying the ogre's club when Titus and Folly fought it later. They also fought Skeleton0 when it was summoned to the area of the cave.

Ghoul and Golem

Soon, we were down to just three mobiles, but who were the final three? It turned out water-snake4 had escaped Spamton, for one.

*A male voice in the distance shouts "WS4!".
*wh ws4
1 in the place known as "underground lake".
*A female voice in the distance shouts "correct. golem, ghoul + 1".
A female voice in the distance shouts "ghoul+golem remain".
*sh The final three. Ws4, ghoul, and golem.
You shout "The final three. Ws4, ghoul, and golem.".
*wh ws4
Your spell doesn't find any.
*A male voice in the distance shouts "Ghoul and Golem".
*sv
2 alive, 298 dead.
*who
Zedar the warlock
Titus the mage
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying champion
Folly the warlock
Dara the necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage
*A female voice in the distance shouts "I cannot go in for golem. low health".

Water-snake4 was brought down, leaving the final two being the Ghoul and the Golem. The ghoul was easily found (for it never leaves its assigned area), but the golem requires a bit of teamwork to access. Folly, Zedar, and Titus did the usual meditation ritual to reach the golem, and Titus ended up being the one to go in.

It was worried that Titus might not be able to finish the golem off, and Dara was asked to be the backup to send someone else in if need be, but it turned out we didn't have to worry.

For (according to Dara's log which she kindly supplied for this writeup), THIS happened:

Dense forest.
You are wandering around in some dense forest. To the east can be seen the
entrance to a misty graveyard. Lying on the ground is a large log. A hollow
yew stump stands here, leading down into the depths.
*You feel as if a tremendous evil has been rid from The Land! No pawns of
darkness sully it with their presence. The relief of generations of souls
floods through your being!
(Persona saved on +3,000 = 50,171).
*A male voice in the distance cheers.
*cheer
You cheer.
*A male voice in the distance cheers.
*Cloudburst the stormy wizard roars.
*A male voice in the distance cheers.
*sh
A female voice in the distance cheers.
*sh Super-cheer!
You shout "Super-cheer!".
*A female voice in the distance cheers.

So yes, with the bash now successful, everyone was free to gather not just the icons but the large amounts of treasure that people had been storing in the hut. Of course we had to hurry, as there wasn't much time before the reset. Here's how things were at the end of the set:

*who
Cloudburst the stormy wizard
Zedar the warlock
Titus the mage
Spamton the dragonfly-slaying guardian
Dara the necromancess
Drizzle the wobbly mage
*Spamton the dragonfly-slaying guardian shouts "BASH WON WITH [2] MINUTES TO
SPARE BEFORE RESET".

And right after that, the set ended and it was time for the post-bash tearoom discussion. Indeed, we finished the bash successfully, with both pagoda and giants realm open, with two minutes to spare.

(Oh, and Folly was still there - I assume he hadn't logged back in yet when that particular WHO command was issued, or he was invis or something).

Another incredible bash, with lots of amusing little stories during it. Bashes often have some surprising things happen during them, and this was certainly one of those occasions.

In any case, special thanks to Dara and Spamton's unpaid intern, and Folly and Zedar for their notes which helped greatly in the making of this writeup.

Bash Writeup 06/27/2024

The Mobile Bash for June 27, 2024 began with wizzes Thwomp, Benny and Crazyfool present, as well as the following:

Crazyfool the stand up wizard
Spamton the guardian
Galandra the necromancess
Paine the matriarch
Drozzle the wibbly necromancer
Zanthia the guest

Please note: Drozzle is NOT to be confused with Drizzle the wobbly mage. Drozzle started out as a parody of Drizzle, but somehow ended up being more active.

Galandra and Spamton wasted little time at the start, with Galandra fighting the fox and Spamton disposing of the dove. While Spamton claimed the pitchfork, Galandra went to the monastery and got rid of the piglet and the scorpion.

Spamton took out the hedgehog, while Galandra encountered the parrot who was soon pining for the fjords. While searching for supplies at the inn, Galandra ran into the thief and decided to deal with the thief early on.

Meanwhile, Drozzle beat the basilisk. Soon, a pillar party was arranged, and everyone rushed to the area for the buff it gave.

Afterwards, Spamton went to the inn to dispose of the mouse and the raven, as well as find a way of seeing in dark areas. Galandra took out the snowbird, but as the pagoda wasn't open yet, used the pony to return to the northern forest area. She would use up a phial while dealing with the venomous viper.

Spamton was about to venture under the well to see if the longsword was down there, when he heard about the portcullis being open - so, he grabbed the opportunity by the [Silly Strings] and managed to secure the longsword, before slaying zombie6.

Drozzle, meanwhile, rid the cellar of its rat infestation and went out to sea, and fed the dragon. Spamton then headed to the area under the well.

Galandra ventured to the dwarf realm, and fought with the female dwarf36. Afterwards, she would fight the stocky dwarf guards and a few other dwarfs. Soon, a distant RHOAAAUUUAURRRRGGGGGGHGHHHGHHHH sound was heard throughout The Land, and Drozzle earned the dragon-slaying prefix.

With 86 minutes left to go in the bash, Galandra resumed fighting dwarfs, while the wolf soon encountered wolfsbane and was banished from The Land for the remainder of the set.

Dwarfs, Shark, Evil Wood

Thwomp, though present at the start of the set, departed, but a badger was left behind, and was sighted in the evil wood.

Drozzle went on to do the keep, while Galandra resumed her activities in the dwarf realm. Spamton, meanwhile, managed to dispose of most of the water-snakes and checked to see if pagoda was open. Drozzle at one point lost his magic, but regained it at the touchstone.

The vampire was disposed of by Drozzle, but wraith and the badger lingered for longer. (EDIT: According to Thwomp, it was the badger who actually took out the vampire).

With pagoda still closed, Spamton was facing the same problem Galandra was facing earlier: getting rid of the pony would create problems returning from the snowy mountainside/low forest region without some sort of parachute. And the only one his oracle could find was hidden in the sea. Thus began a misadventure of looking for the only accessible seaboat (eventually found in the goblin lair) in order to venture out into the sea to grab the parasol from the rocky beach.

But, by the time he got there (after being sidetracked by a few fights, including a particularly awkward battle against the jellyfish) - the parasol was gone!

Galandra, meanwhile, took down the hefty dwarf guards, unaware of the time of Spamton's naughtical misadventure. Spamton, meanwhile, didn't have time to sit around moping about it! He was still in the middle of his [Thursday Night Workout]!

Spurred on by people shouting for help back in the mainland, Spamton got back onto his dinghy and started sailing back. After all, a [[Customer]] in need is a [[Customer]] indeed!

Unfortunately, his noble journey back was interrupted by Shark0, who clearly had an appetite for some Hawaiian cuisine.

Good news - Spamton killed the shark. Bad news - Spamton decided to quickly venture westwards to avoid the incoming rain, but, in his haste, he walked right into the waterfall and had one of those temporary 'silly deaths' that occur in The Land.

And so, Spamton got back into The Land, found a misplaced Epee, regained the glow, and then had some sleep to recover from the waterfall incident. Drizzle also arrived in the meantime, joining Benny, Paine, and Zanthia in the tearoom.

Drizzle, of course, is the wobbly mage fond of rotating and swiveling. He and Paine offered moral support from the tearoom.

At the same time Spamton was having his misadventure at sea, Drozzle (not to be confused with Drizzle) returned to the evil wood to face those he'd missed on the previous visit. He took down the badger, and then ran into problems with the wraith.

*wh wraith
1 in the place known as "evil wood".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "nvm".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "nvm".
*wh wraith
Your spell doesn't find any.

However, he managed to finish off the wraith without help. He then, however, had a surprise run-in with the alligator in the swamp.

*wh drozzle
1 in the place known as "fuming swamp".
*wh alligator
1 in the place known as "treacherous swamp".
*A male voice in the distance shouts "[Jaws0]".
*wh spamton
1 in the place known as "sea".

The alligator was soon taken care of. Galandra would soon be joined by Drozzle, who took down the surly dwarf guards while Galandra took down the burly dwarf guards. Working together, Drozzle and Galandra overthrew the dwarf monarchy.

Around this time, Benny signed off, and wished us well.

Pony and Pagoda

Spamton fought with the pony, while Galandra and Drozzle finished off the thickset dwarf guards. Spamton had some great difficulty with the pony, and had to flee and rest up, before finally managing to defeat the pony.

Galandra had just slain the spider, when Spamton made the announcement. She rested up, and the bash had a new participant: Inkling the mage arrived.

*who
Inkling the mage
Spamton the guardian
Drizzle the wobbly mage
Galandra the necromancess
Drozzle the dragonfly-slaying, wibbly warlock

And around this time, the pagoda finally opened, making Spamton's quest to obtain the parasol redundant (since it was no longer needed to return from the low forest/snowy mountainside area).

Galandra took out ape0, while Inkling went to the scriptorium, where the hunchback was still lurking about.

Drozzle was having trouble with the monk, and Galandra went to help, but some strange things were happening, and the monk's fight was not progressing at all. Fortunately, a wiz was called in to FOD the monk, saving Drozzle and Galandra the trouble of having to come up with a non-combat way of getting rid of the monk. Spamton, meanwhile, heard the calls for help and spotted the pterodacyl. Spamton would also get in a fight with ape3.

Galandra fought with the giant snake, and Spamton showed up and helped finish it off. The two of them encountered Ape10, and with help from Drozzle, took down ape10. Galandra and Drozzle would then hunt the tiger in the pagoda courtyard.

Drozzle would finish off the previously-sighted pterodactyl, while Inkling took the snugglepuss. Skeleton1 was spotted at the public bar, and Spamton was sidetracked by the longsword being found by the inn before joining the others in fighting sk1. Against several players at once, skeleton1 was overwhelmed and just fell apart.

The last few mobiles

Around this point, the mobile count was getting low. Spamton had previously stopped chasing the bees, but now it was time to finish them.

A male voice in the distance shouts "BEE TIME".
*reset
Time-stamp: 22:18:42 on 27-JUN-2024.
This is reset 116141, using slot 0.
An auto-reset will be initiated in approximately 27 minutes.
*sv
21 alive, 281 dead.

After Spamton and Inkling disposed of bees and Galandra disposed of ape2, there were six mobiles left. The upper floor pagoda mobiles, the golem, and two others. One of which was the crocodile, the second of the rarely seen swamp mobiles. Galandra did her WH duty, and made an announcement.

Galandra the necromancess shouts "Upper floor pagoda needs Ghostbusters! And mongoose hunters and phoenix finders!"

Drozzle answered the call and went to the upper floors of the pagoda to face those mobiles. Spamton, not sure how to get upstairs, instead decided to go to the shrine to meditate. Inkling went to the ancient chamber, Galandra went to the hallowed chamber - and Inkling arrived in front of the golem.

Afterward, Spamton ended up in the isle of woe whilst looking for the shark1, and it hurt a bit, so Spamton slept a bit there whilst waiting to regain stamina to hunt the shark.

Soon shark1 died (without any intervention from Spamton) and the upper pagoda mobiles were gone, but there was still a mystery mobile. The reset was extended as those with magic kept doing the WH spell to see if they could identify the one mobile left over.

It turned out the mobile was the starfish, which Drozzle thought he'd finished off earlier. Apparently, it turned up alive in the swamp, and someone had to go out of their way to dispose of it.

And so with a little under 2 minutes left (in the extended time), the bash came to a successful conclusion despite the strange occurences.

All in all, a very interesting bash indeed. No two bashes are alike, and that's part of the fun. And this bash certainly had its share of surprises. Who knows what future bashes might bring?

Special thanks to Spamton's unpaid intern who wrote a great deal of notes.

Bash 06/27/2024 addendum

There was some confusion earlier today about just who it was who took out the vampire. According to Thwomp, it was the badger and not Drozzle. I have added this to my writeup both here and on Discord.
