Mobile Bash report for July 11, 2024

Well, the mobile bash for July 11th, 2024 had a few surprises early on. But first, the WHO list at the start.

Once the bash started was the first surprise. The first was one of Heiach's 'reset remixes' being worked in, meaning that there would be a few mobiles and items that we don't usually see. For example, two magpies, a knight, a mimic, a repaired barge, and a shield. So that brought some variety.

The sound of rock splitting at the start of the set gave us plenty of time to prepare for giants. Spamton found a mallet while Galandra searched for the staff. Forley wasted no time disposing of the bees, but then, in the distance, we heard the whistling feedback of a failed finger of death spell.

Sadly, Forley perished in a brave but unsuccessful attempt to FOD the golem. A moment of silence for our fallen companion.

Still, life goes on, and so did the bash, with the following WHO list.

Highfields replaced Forley in the bash, while Galandra went fox hunting and then stag hunting. Spamton, meanwhile, dealt with the coot and the dove, while Gaia and Highfields took out the basilisk.

Everyone made it to the pillar setup, while Heiach's vote for bash general concluded. It was a toss-up between Forley's corpse and Gaia. Forley's corpse won, but since Forley's corpse was unable to do any of the things associated with bash generals (such as shouting about what mobiles are left), Gaia ended up with the bash general prefix.

Presumably, whatever Heiach fodded was something the mortals would have had too much trouble disposing of. As it turns out, this was a complete coincidence, and had nothing to do with Forley's tragic accident.

Zombies, rats, and snakes

Zombies were gathering at the bank of the river, but Galandra and Gaia were ready to take them on. They brought down a great many zombies before turning their attention to skeleton1. Galandra reasoned that the fight would go faster if the two of them teamed up to take down the skeleton, and after a while, the following happened:

The skeleton1 looks close to expiry.
The skeleton1 hits you (33/120).
The skeleton1 has fled by trying to go northeast.
You can fight him no longer.
A smallish, well-maintained pickaxe has been dropped here.

The skeleton1 falls apart.

Spamton, meanwhile, searched for the longsword under the well, but only found the water-snakes. He would very nearly wear out the dagger while dealing with the water-snakes, and look for a better weapon afterward.

Gaia took out the dragonfly, and then disposed of most of the rats. One rat eluded Gaia, though none of us knew it at the time (but I'll get to that later). Gaia then offered the coal to Galandra, who knew what to do with it.

Sailing, giant realm, and rough fights

Galandra sailed to the ship wrecked at the vicious rocks, where she found some things she would need to dispose of a few mobiles later on. While she was at sea, she fed the dragon with something that would cause the delayed reaction non-combat death as described in the grimoire's list of Tasks.

At the area before the shrine, giant1 was doing her civic duty clearing out some overgrown vegetation, when she suddenly encountered a fire and an explosive. Unfortunately, giant1 didn't notice these until too late, and went all to pieces. Galandra, meanwhile, fought with Goblin13, before hearing the distant RHOAAAUUUAURRRRGGGGGGHGHHHGHHHH of a dragon dying.

Spamton obtained the longsword, just in time to use against the goat. He was surprised that the goat knew how to retreat. Before venturing into the pagoda, Spamton got rid of a raven. After reaching the pagoda, Spamton found that ape10 was a strong opponent, but still managed to prevail.

At some point, Gaia and Highfields managed to rid the evil wood of the vampire and the wraith. Highfields killed the wraith, while Gaia finished the vampire off after it fled from a fight. Gaia also finished off zombie10.

Gaia also did the keep, encountered the knight, and used the shield until it broke. Gaia suspects the fight with 12 crows might have played a factor.

Galandra, meanwhile, fought with several goblins and chickens in the goblin dwellings who fled a lot. One of the chickens survived long enough to flee to the bull pen, and Galandra ended up getting in a fight with a bull and using up wafers.

After the fight with the bull, Galandra was in a hurry to track down the remaining chicken and the drake. She did, but she lost track of her stamina and ran into one of the two five-goblin bands that roam the area. She was forced to flee before she could finish off all of them.

While Galandra rested and recovered, Highfields was off disposing of a few other mobiles. At some point, Highfields disposed of the spider as well as the viper. He also fought with fissure goblins.

Galandra soon recovered, and took out goblin17 before finishing off the goblin groups and recovering her lost items.

Soon, the following message was announced.

Galandra would then announce to the rest of The Land "Lion can't make it this set. He got swamped. "

Galandra would return to the garden area to deal with the swan. (Gaia, meanwhile, got rid of the boar).

Pagoda and dwarfs

At this point, people were working hard to reduce the mobile count, with Gaia dealing damage to dwarfs. With the mobile count reduced to 75 mobiles in 64 minutes, Spamton chose to fight ape9.

Galandra, meanwhile, took out ape0. Highfields fought giant2 (and also at some point took down giant3).

After Galandra finished ape0, there was a great dissension among the apes with the loss of their leader. This became clear around the time Galandra was just about to finish off ape4.

The ape4 looks close to death.

Spamton heard Heiach's announcement about the apes fighting each other along with everyone else, as well as the announcement that ape2 was now worth 153 points. But Spamton decided he didn't have time for that monkey business - because Spamton's got some monk-y business to deal with.

Gaia got past several dwarf guards, and made it to the king's treasure chamber. Galandra would take out the snowy mountainside and low forest area mobiles, and return to the pagoda to help dispose of the remaining mobiles on the ground floor. Gaia and Galandra took out the tiger, and then finished off the giant snake as Highfields moved on to the upper floors of the pagoda.

Great progress made

At this point, the mobile count got really low, and Heiach was surprised that the spider was already dead at this point (as usually, it's one of the last five mobiles left).

Indeed, everyone had made incredible progress for a bash with both pagoda and giants open. Gaia returned to the dwarf realm to look for leftover dwarfs while Highfields finished the pagoda.

Galandra realized that both the piglet and the hunchback were still lurking around the scriptorium. The piglet was found early, but the hunchback was elusive in that maze. But finally, she fought the hunchback and brought him down.

One of the seven was shark1. Spamton went out to sea to help fight it, but it was already dead by the time he arrived. Soon the wolf went down, leaving only 5 mobiles left.

The Last Mobiles

But who were the last ones left? A reference to a certain popular series of movies nudged Galandra in the right direction, and sure enough, she discovered the ogre had managed to last this long. After she brought down the ogre, it was time for the final four. These were Giant0, the golem, and two others.

At this point, Heiach gave everyone the following reminder.

Heiach the chimerical wizard shouts "don't forget this is a remix too".

With that in mind, Highfields went down the hole and encountered the mimic.

Then it was decided to take down the golem. Galandra went to the ancient chamber, Gaia went to the hallowed chamber, and Spamton went to the shrine. Gaia entered the the sanctum and fought the golem.

There were now just two mobiles remaining. Giant0 and one mystery mobile. With help from a certain musical instrument, Highfields soon discovered the mystery mobile was rat15, which was the rat that had eluded Gaia earlier in the set.

Final Boss Battle - Giant0

Then it was time for the final showdown with Giant0. Highfields was joined by Galandra in the final boss fight, reproduced below:

And so, with 27 minutes to spare, this bash was a great success! Galandra and Highfields stayed in The Land to swamp some treasure from the giant realm, before joining everyone else in the tearoom for the post-bash chat.

The new mobiles introduced with the 'remix' had provided some challenge, mostly with finding them (though Gaia said the knight was hard). But the group of mobile bashers rose to the occasion, and gave one amazing bash.

27 minutes to spare, with pagoda and giants open, and active participants Gaia, Galandra, Spamton and Highfields. All in all, a fun bashing experience.

Bash report July 25th, 2024

This bash started nearly an hour earlier than the previous bashes, a decision agreed upon by many of the regular participants.

When the bash started, the following were present.

Spamton the guardian
Galandra the necromancess
Folly the warlock
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Drizzle would stay in the tearoom for the usual wibbling and wobbling and rotating, while Galandra, Spamton, and Folly wasted no time in getting the bash started. Spamton grabbed a staff and went after the parrot, Galandra ran across the raven and the butterfly, and Folly took out the bees.

The ram opted to start a fight with Spamton, but Galandra joined in to help fell the ram. Afterward, Galandra was nominated as bash general.

Galandra got rid of four fireflies. Spamton went to the inn to obtain some light, and killed the mouse whilst he was there. During this time, it was announced that the knight was present in The Land.

Spamton decided to wallop the Scorpion, but got stung by it. Galandra, meanwhile, fought the thief, and the magpie came along, and so Galandra was able to rid the bash of both the thief and the magpie.

Spamton returned to the tearoom, grabbed the bardiche from the hut, killed the dragonfly, and re-obtained some light. Galandra, meanwhile, had more trouble with the fox than expected due to being in too much of a hurry to rest up after the fight with the thief.

Spamton killed the dove and the boar, but lost the bardiche. Galandra finished off the fox and the piglet, while Folly finished the basilisk. All of them made it to the pillar buff.

Galandra fought the coot, and announced to The Land that the pagoda was open. Galandra would then go hunting the stag, then grabbed the barge and used it to venture into the man made lake to take down the swan.

Spamton grabbed the axe0 in the hut, and proceeded to use that to actually contribute to the bashing effort
(chopping down the yew tree, and killing several zombies with it). Folly disposed of the ox, and Spamton believed the lion was disposed of for this set (more on that later).

Folly went after goblins, and Galandra went after the snowy mountainside/low forest area mobiles. Spamton pursued the goat after it fled and finished it off, while Galandra took down the pony and the snowbird. Soon, there were 125 mobiles left in 80 minutes.

Section Two: Pagoda and Croquet

Galandra found the marmot, while Folly disposed of the rats. Spamton got rid of the snugglepuss, while Galandra went to the pagoda area and took out ape0. Not long after Galandra took down ape11, everyone heard the terrible RHOAAAUUUAURRRRGGGGGGHGHHHGHHHH of a dragon dying. Folly had succeeded in feeding the dragon.

Flooding occurred at the mine, and Galandra fought the hunchback at the north lush pasture, eventually bringing down the hunchback and claiming the wafer11 and the cowl. Folly, at one point, took out the wraith in the evil wood, but the vampire was left for later.

What was Spamton doing, meanwhile? Well, Spamton had a series of misadventures, summarized in notes made by Spamton's unpaid intern. After a mishap at sea, "Spamton got ambushed by ape1 whilst he was in a pretty rough state, so Spamton had to flee."

While ape12 was taken down by the ghost (the ghost and the ape12 seem to not be able to peacefully coexist in the upper realm of the pagoda), Spamton (in the words of Spamton's unpaid intern, decided to invite Ape4 for a game of croquet. Spamton has no idea how to play croquet. Ape4 wasn't in the mood for croquet, asking to withdraw, then fleeing, and then losing said game of croquet. Zombie2 was more in the mood, but also lost.

(The above two paragraphs, again, are courtesy of Spamton's unpaid intern).

Galandra, meanwhile, fought with the banshee in the swamp, and the viper got involved. The viper died quick enough, so quickly Galandra didn't even need to use a phial. The banshee held out longer, but Galandra emerged triumphant.

Folly, meanwhile, was fighting dwarfs, and Spamton fought water-snakes.

Galandra, meanwhile, was keeping track of ground level pagoda mobiles. She reported that ape1, ape4, and ape6 were around, and got to work fighting ape10. Ape10 fled to ape8's location, so after finishing off ape10, Galandra still had ape8 to deal with.

Around this point, there were 65 mobiles left alive, 230 dead. Galandra did her duty as bash general and WH'd a few mobiles, announcing via everyone to the set "Vampire still in evil wood!", and going on to WH the sealife.

Galandra the bash-general necromancess shouts "Sealife still swimming! (I love alliteration)".
Heiach the chimerical wizard shouts "the monk is still meditating".

Galandra would go on to fight ape6. At this point, there were 57 mobiles with 56 minutes. After finishing off ape6, Galandra WHed ape4, who had ventured into the pine forest.

Folly continued fighting with the dwarfs, and ape4 was soon out of the bash. Galandra would fight with the giant snake and the tiger, and quickly dispose of the carp. This left 45 mobiles left, with 45 minutes remaining.

Section Three: Invisible opponents, the knight, and the Keep

Some time after that some point, Spamton managed to obtain the longsword and went on to kill shark0 and the jellyfish, returning to the shore just before it started raining. Folly would later dispose of shark1.

Folly took a break from dwarfs to return to the evil wood and rid it of the vampire. Galandra would take Heiach's earlier hint, and deal with the monk. As Folly went to a dwarf guard room, Galandra fought with ape9.

Spamton, meanwhile, fought with the man with the ls. Unfortunately, the man was able to put Spamton to sleep a few times, made himself invisible, and fled - but Folly was able to track him down and finish the job.

Soon, Folly introduced the wolf to wolfsbane, and Galandra realized that with the mobile count down to 26, the keep was still more or less undisturbed. She quickly rushed there and disposed of the wyvern, and encountered the knight on the upper floor.

Galandra fought the knight, and was joined by Spamton in the fight.

With less than 25 mobiles to go now, Spamton went on ahead to deal with the spectre, taking with him the shield obtained from the knight.

Galandra was resting during much of this. Elsewhere, Folly had an encounter with the dwarf king and queen, and soon afterwards dwarf flags were lowered to half-mast.

Galandra and Spamton then teamed together to deal with the griffin. With maiden and company gone, there were only 10 mobiles left, three of them being skeletons.

Section Four: The Top 10 remaining mobiles, and one more surprise

A mishap at the alcoves left Spamton without the longsword and the shield, but they were recovered. With keep finished, Galandra went to search for the skeletons. Folly finished off skeleton0 while Galandra finished off skeleton2. Unable to reach zombie7, Galandra instead went after skeleton1 while Folly accessed the zombie7 and made short work of it, arriving just in time to assist Galandra in finishing skeleton1.

At this point, the three active bash participants (Galandra, Spamton, and Folly) joined together to open the path to the golem. Folly went in and face the golem.

Much like the previous bash, the ogre was still around as one of the last few remaining mobiles. Spamton and Galandra would take it down.

Zombie8 had wandered into the small tunnels south of the cellar and was difficult to access, but Folly soon summoned it so it could be defeated.

At this point, it appeared the ghoul was the last mobile remaining, so all three of the active participants teamed up to take out the ghoul. The final boss for this bash?

Well, not quite. There was an unexpected twist.

Yes, the lion had somehow been found and activated just before the ghoul fell. Spamton was too worn out from the fight with the ghoul to participate, but Galandra and Folly went up to the surface to take out the lion.

You shout "Wait, there's still one more!".
*Spamton the longsword-wielding guardian has just fallen asleep.

And so the bash ended successfully with three minutes to spare. Some players used the remaining three minutes to swamp a few things, and then headed to the tearoom for the post-bash chat.

This bash started early, and had some interesting surprises. But as I like to say, no two mobile bashes are alike. Each one tells a different story, and no one knows just what stories future bashes may tell. We'll have to wait and see.

Mobile Bash Report August 22, 2024 08/22/2024

Well, the bash started off at 8pm UK time. We were joined by Zedar, who'd taken a hiatus from the bashes in the past few months. The WHO list at the start was this:

As usual, Cenedra and Drizzle stayed in the tearoom and offered moral support, after having been present for the pre-bash chat.

Dara wasted little time at the start, and quickly foiled the fox, smashed the stag, dealt with the dove, and pounded the piglet. Spamton smashed the scorpion but got stung.

All alliteration aside, Spamton re-entered The Land to reclaim the croquet mallet, and get rid of the parrot and the mouse. Meanwhile, Zedar went to work in the mausoleum and claimed the sceptre, and left it in the hut.

Spamton was fighting the ram when the pillar was announced, but made it to the pillar party along with Dara and Zedar and got the boost.
Dara then decided to get rid of the spider early on, since she had found a phial in the monastery while chasing the piglet and needed to find a use for it. The ox came along during the fight, and Dara managed to subdue it and put it in a state suitable for depositing in the swamp.

Spamton, meanwhile, encountered the butterfly and the electric eel at the rapids.

After Spamton disposed of the eel, he then ventured to the area under the well to face water-snakes.
Dara fought with zombie6 and zombie1 at the bank of the river. Meanwhile, Zedar went to get rid of the bees, and while Dara found her way to the chute leading to the goblin passages, Zedar announced that the bees were gone.

There were 150 left, with 88 minutes to go.

Goblins, dragon, and pterodactyl

Zedar turned his attention to the rats, while Dara disposed of goblin2 and goblin3 before having a longer fight with the exceptionally large goblin10. As Dara went on to fight other goblins, Zedar finished off the rats.

While Dara was fighting with zombie7, Spamton noticed the pagoda was open. Dara had already noticed this earlier in the set, but the shout reminded her of this, so she headed to the pagoda area and fought with ape0.

Meanwhile, Spamton sighted a pterodactyl at the middle mountain, and Zedar managed to reach the dragon and do the 'kill the dragon, but not in a fight' task.

Spamton decided to fight the pterodactyl and soon caused it to become extinct (at least for the remainder of that set). There were now 100 mobiles left, with 72 minutes remaining.

Keep and pagoda

Zedar went to the keep to confront the mobiles there, while Dara fought with ape8. Ape11, meanwhile, escaped the pagoda and made it to the swamp area.

According to Zedar's later account, the fight with the griffin was a rough one, and he was very low on stamina as the fight came to an end. He stated that the Griffin had him to 20 but was 'Close To Death' and rather than fleeing and preserving the hours of play put into his Warlock, Zedar foolishly risked it and luckily the Griffin went down.

Ape11 was stumbling around outside of the pagoda, brandishing an incense burner. Spamton was able to get rid of ape11, but fell victim to the intoxicating fumes of the incense burner. Fun times!

Spamton's problems didn't end there. The hunchback showed up in the swamp area, and attempted to steal the longsword. The hunchback managed to eat wafer55 during his fight with Spamton (Crazyfool had claimed it would be a no wafers set, but clearly did not get rid of all the wafers). Spamton managed to defeat the hunchback despite still feeling the effects of the incense fumes.

Dara decided to take on the rest of the ground level pagoda mobiles, and soon put an end to the giant snake's hissy fit. Zedar, meanwhile, gave Spamton a stamina potion, and Spamton went to find a boat to face the swan in the man-made lake. Zedar would then venture into the dwarf realm.

The boar was starting to bore Spamton - so Spamton decided to try slaying it. Soon, boardom was defeated.

Dara, meanwhile, attempted to incapacitate ape10 by tossing an incense burner into its location, but nothing seemed to be happening, so she lost patience and ended up attacking ape10, and in the process inhaled some incense fumes. Ape10 fled, and Dara accidentally ended up in the upper floor of the pagoda while pursuing ape10.

After busting the ghost on the first upper floor, Dara attempted to rest and recover, but was kept awake by the "HIC!" of the fumes every few seconds. Much time was lost for Dara as she attempted to recover stamina without wafers and having little choice but to hope the "HIC"s stopped soon.

Spamton invited himself into Il Castellare and whacked the snugglepuss. Then Spamton decided to pick a fight with a spooky scary skeleton1 who just happened to have picked up a pick of its own.

Dara was eventually able to recover enough stamina to fight the phoenix and the mongoose on the upper levels of the pagoda. Meanwhile, Ape10 made it near the swamp, and Spamton went to fight it - but ape10 was also carrying incense - and Spamton fell victim to it once again.

Dara, meanwhile, hunted the tiger in the pagoda's courtyard, and took out the carp as well. There were now 50 mobiles left, with 35 minutes remaining.

Undead and dwarfs

Zedar was fighting his way through the dwarves, whilst Spamton ventured into the graveyard, eliminating a zombie, and heading down into The Tomb to fight the Ghoul. Spamton was knocked down to 14 stamina - but Zedar appeared in the nick of time to help Spamton finish it off.

Dara, meanwhile, saw that ape2 was still roaming around and managed to get rid of it quickly. At this point, there were 35 mobiles left, with 30 minutes remaining.

Dara finished off the low forest/snowy mountainside area mobiles (the pony and the snowbird - any others were no shows this set), and soon realized that the Evil Wood Tag Team Champions, the Vampire and the Wraith, were still reigning in the evil wood.

Spamton decided to venture into the Evil Wood and started fighting the vampire, helped by Dara. The wraith tagged in, while the vampire blinded Spamton and retreated. The wraith was taken down.

Spamton, being unable to fight the vampire any longer, decided to retreat from the vampire whilst waiting for his eyesight to return, while Dara pursued the vampire. Zedar joined in and helped finish the vampire off. Dara then proclaimed to The Land "The winners, and NEW Evil Wood Tag Team Champions - Dara, Zedar, and Spamton!".

There were now 25 mobiles left, with 23 minutes remaining. As Spamton waited for the blindness spell to wear off (and it did), Dara started to do some WHing to locate remaining mobiles.

Zombie8 was still in the passage behind the bookcase, and Dara and Spamton took it down. Soon there were 21 mobiles left, with 20 minutes remaining.

Further WHing revealed that skeleton0 and the sealife were all still around. Zedar needed some assistance with the dwarf king and queen, but Spamton wasn't sure where to go. Dara, however, arrived at the king's study just in time to help Zedar take down the dwarf king.

Dara would then take down the remaining two sets of dwarf guards, finding a few wafers but using them up in the fight with the surly dwarf guards.

Soon there were 12 minutes left with ten minutes remaining.

The remaining mobiles

Some WHing indicated that skeleton0, sealife, and the wolf were still around. Skeleton0 was located in 'vertical staircase' (as opposed to horizontal staircase?), but no one seemed in any hurry to access sk0, and it was forgotten about.

Dara, on the way out of the dwarf citadel, met with dwarf28, who appeared ready for a poker game. After dwarf28 lost, Dara then found dwarf26 in the dwarf dormitory.

Spamton decided to be irresponsible and charge in to a fight with the wolf without any wolfsbane. Nearly died. Zedar saved Spamton yet again.

Spamton found a coracle, and decided to rest up before fighting sealife. Spamton fought with shark0 and proceeded to attack it with the longsword, but the fight did not go well. Spamton was forced to flee at sea, on 4 stamina, and ended up in the tearoom. Spamton's stuff washed up on the jetty, but Spamton really needed to sleep following that incredibly close call with shark0.

Dara, meanwhile, disposed of the jellyfish, and Zedar would show up to help finish off shark1 after she, too, had to flee and re-enter.

Dara finished off the coot, and rested a bit. Meanwhile, Spamton went into the mine to get rid of the canary - couldn't find it manually, so he opted to just flood the mine.

The reset timer then gave us its only warning. There were only 570 seconds remaining so we would have to wrap this up fast.

The canary avoided the flood, so Spamton hunted it down and disposed of it.

Only five mobiles were left alive: Shark0, the ogre, the man, the golem, and skeleton0. Unfortunately, each of us had assumed someone must have already gotten skeleton0, so we regarded the fifth mobile as an 'unknown mobile' and wasted time WHing.

Spamton decided to try fighting the man. Unfortunately, he went invisible and kept putting Spamton to sleep; eventually, Spamton was unable to continue the fight, so he retreated and slept. Dara was able to finish off the Man, whilst Spamton made his way over to the Ogre.

Zedar and Spamton killed the ogre and then an attempt to reach the golem was made, as Zedar headed to the shrine. But we had less time left than we realized, and the set came to an abrupt end, with the golem, shark0, and skeleton0 still remaining.

So yes, this was the first less than successful bash in a long time. Looking back, it's easy to see what went wrong. It was a combination of bad luck, bad timing, and a few mis-steps on the part of the bashers. But hindsight, after all, is 20/20. The best one can do is learn from the mistakes and hope to do better next time.

All in all, a pretty good bash despite the unsuccessful conclusion. Hopefully things will go more smoothly next time.

Bash report for August 29th, 2024

Well, this was a very unusual bash, due to the twists involving mobiles turning up in unusual places. The players also had the opportunity to face mobiles they don't often face during mobile bashes.

When the bash started, the WHO list was something like this:

Thwomp the wayward wizard
Crazyfool the stand-up wizard
Folly the necromancer
Dara the necromancess
Paine the matriarch
Drozzle the wibbly warlock
Zedar the bash general warlock
Drizzle the wobbly mage

Folly quickly made short work of the bees, while Dara fought with the thief and bashed the butterfly shortly after the thief was disposed of. While Drozzle went after the basilisk, Zedar fought with rats in the cellar.

Crazyfool and Thwomp livened things up with some mischief, though Crazyfool would not stay until the end of the bash. There was a lengthy wait for everyone to show up to the pillar party, due to the means of getting there being used elsewhere for a while.

But after it was finished, Dara returned to the badly paved road and saw the goat and the ram fighting each other. Since this was a mobile bash, Dara decided to fight both of them. And since mobiles are pretty bad at putting their own differences aside to face a common enemy, they kept fighting each other as well. The ram was soon finished off, and then it was time to try looking for some other mobiles.

Dara found herself in the goblin lairs, taking out a few of the goblins, and goblin11 and goblin12, and then Folly showed up to take out a few more. In the distance, the sound of flooding in the mine could be heard.

A report about skeleton2 putting up quite a fight led to Zedar, Drozzle, and Dara all fighting against it at the mausoleum. After some triple-teaming, skeleton2 just fell apart.

Soon, there were shouted reports of goblins being sighted in the luscious wood. And Dara would encounter goblins at the bank of the river. In fact, here's the scene from Dara's perspective:

Dara caught up with the fox at the stream near luscious wood, while meanwhile Folly and Zedar fought with skeleton1 at the ingresso, and were joined by Dara to finish skeleton1 off.

And then Spamton showed up around this point.

Spamton, meanwhile got busy. Spamton happened to find himself (and Folly) cornered by a couple of goblins in a forest. Folly had the THS but Spamton just had a stick he found when he spawned in. It went alright.

Spamton went to obtain a healthy glow, and found a cricket bat in the attic. Spamton has never played cricket before. Maybe there's a first time for everything? Unfortunately, Ape11 stole the bat before Spamton could attempt playing cricket (via process of elimination) with it.
but Spamton stole it back.

Spamton's unpaid intern asks "Is this how cricket works? Asking for a friend."

Spamton tried to chase down the ape for some more cricket lessons, but the ape evaded him. So he decided to try learning the rules of cricket from some fireflies, who weren't in the mood for much cricket either.

While Spamton was sorting all that out, Dara, having rested up, went to find the swan in the man-made lake, and finished it off. Dara would then go looking for the boar, and was surprised to find three goblins along with the boar in the aviary. In fact, here's an excerpt from Dara's point of view to see what she saw there.

You are in a dilapidated building at the eastern edge of a grand lawn. This
place seems to have been designed as an aviary, and you can imagine how it
would have looked when it was stocked with rare and exotic species. Now it is
somewhat desolate, its open construction helping the elements do their work.
To the southeast is a maze, formed by ancient yew hedges, and east lies an
orangery. It is raining. Sniffing the ground intently is a large, wild boar.
An evil-looking goblin (goblin32) stares at you, madly. An evil-looking goblin
(goblin43) stares at you, madly. An evil-looking, female goblin (goblin44)
stares at you, madly.

Aww, the goblin32 misses Dara? She didn't know goblin32 cared.

Seriously, however, Dara would finish the fight with g44 and 32, but had to hold off finishing the boar until she rested up a little. Meanwhile, Spamton (according to the notes by Spamton's unpaid intern), continued facing mobiles with the cricket bat.

Spamton decided to ask the banshee for some cricket lessons, according to Spamton's unpaid intern. Meanwhile, Zedar and another person would be fighting ape11 at fast-flowing river. Dara would return to the aviary and finish off the boar.

Spamton managed to survive his cricket lesson decently intact, and Thwomp was just vibing in mid-air near the rapids, as one does.

Zedar offered to accompany Dara to help finish off pagoda mobiles, and they managed to finish off ape0 before taking a rest for a bit. As Dara was resting up, there was a 'sleep for points' shout, which Spamton also heard .

After that, Spamton decided to trade his cricket bat for a sceptre, before venturing out to take more hot deals to valued customers. All whilst Drizzle hid a fish (allegedly).

Pagoda and dwarfs

Drozzle would fight with the dwarfs, eventually reaching the king's study. Along the way, he would reach 63 kills, according to Thwomp.

Thwomp the wayward wizard shouts "Drozzle on 63 kills. What a machine!".

Meanwhile, there was reports that there was a mole. (A mole of the underground digging variety, of course).

Dara and Zedar would dispose of a few more of the apes in the ape forest area, and Folly would dispose of the tiger in the courtyard, after clearing out the giant snake and the upper floor pagoda mobiles as well. Dara and Zedar would then make short work of the snowy mountainside area mobiles.

Spamton's sceptre broke whilst fighting a water-snake. Spamton retreated to grab his stashed falchion. Drozzle, meanwhile, summoned skeleton0 to hut and fought with it. Around this point, redwoods opened up. Dara WH'ed the spider and found it was still around.

The Redwoods

The 'redwoods' area (the overgrown forest area) isn't often seen in bashes, but fortunately many of the players were familiar with the area. Zedar and Dara decided to take a quick nap before tackling the mobiles in that area (for that area has its share of tough mobiles). Zedar heard a call for help from Spamton, and Dara fought with a menacing vine on her own before having to flee and rest up.

Zedar found himself under the well with Spamton, so Spamton and Zedar stumbled around looking for the last water-snake (but Spamton found the longsword in the process). Soon, the remaining water-snakes were eliminated.

Meanwhile, the players got the following notification:

For your information: the canary is worth 214 points if killed.
Dara the necromancess shouts "Had to flee from vine in redwoods. Resting up.".
A male voice in the distance shouts "who been hugging the canary".
Dara the necromancess shouts "Spider still alive, by the way".

Dara and Zedar, joined by Folly, finished off the vine. Spamton, meanwhile, fought with the spider, only to be overcome by the spider's venom and forced to re-enter. Spamton would, however, reclaim the longsword and, with the help of Drozzle, deal the spider a final blow.

Dara and Folly, after resting up, would venture to the forest canopy to fight the rocs. The roc concert was a rough one, but soon, Dara and Folly brought down the female roc, and a short time later, the male roc, too, would pass into legend.

Dara and Folly would go down to the other part of the overgrown forest area. Once the raccoon had been disposed of, there were now 15 mobiles left.

Then Dara and Folly fought with the black bear. The black bear would soon flee to the west, and Dara pursued the black bear to the west, and then the south.

Let's see what happened from Dara's point of view first:

As it turns out, Folly's embarrassing situation was even worse, as he ran into another nasty mobile to the east. From Folly's viewpoint:

As you can see, Folly had run into a fight with another nasty mobile: the swarm of ants. As the ants attacked him, he wanted to know just where the black bear had disappeared to. Again, from Folly's viewpoint:

And there we have the conclusion of the black bear fight from both Dara and Folly's viewpoints. As for the swarm of ants, Dara soon rejoined Folly and helped Folly finish off those pests.

The rest of the bashers soon disposed of the piglet and the mole. Spamton, meanwhile, went to the fossil room where the ammonite had been discovered, and disposed of it.

It was then that Dara, Folly, and Drozzle would team up together to take on the remaining redwoods area mobile, the smilodon. They searched for it around the barren plain, and finally found it at the southwest plinth of the ruined statue.

The smilodon is one of the tougher mobiles in the area, and it put up a good fight even against three players. Here's an excerpt from the end of the fight:

*You hear a slicing sound, as Folly the necromancer hits the smilodon with his

You hear a stumble, as the smilodon misses Folly the necromancer.
You hear a stinging blow, as Drozzle the wibbly warlock hits the smilodon with
his Valetant.
You have killed the smilodon.

The smilodon becomes extinct.
A large, yellow fang, nearly the length of your forearm and sharply pointed,
lies here.
*Folly the necromancer has picked up the sampan.

*Drozzle the wibbly warlock makes some magical gestures.
Drozzle the wibbly warlock has just left.

So as you can tell, they decided to do golem next and each of them headed to the places needed to access the golem. Zedar attempted to enter the shrine, but Dara had already occupied the shrine.

Anyway, the golem was soon disposed of, and Drozzle announced the icons were in the hut.

A rarely seen mobile, and an explosive finish

*A male voice in the distance shouts "we're missing one: g21, g27, g28, g47,
g48, bison, golem".

The missing mobile turned out to be a rarely seen mobile, the axolotl. It was located inside the bowl7, which was located in the alpine cottage.

Dara was the one who chose to go and find it. She found it in a bowl alongside Thwomp the wayward wizard. Trying to pick up the bowl didn't work -- apparently, the bowl was non-portable. Attempting to remove the contents from the bowl only resulted in the cardboard box she was carrying falling apart due to its poor water resistance.

So Dara had to break the bowl instead, and fight the axolotl. The axolotl proved to be a bit tougher than expected, and Dara had to chase it a bit. But soon, the following happened:

Bedroom in alpine cottage.
A pale pink axolotl stares at you with its deep black eyes.
*You attack the axolotl, using the staff0 as a weapon.
*You hit the axolotl (20-29).
You have killed the axolotl.

For your information: there are 5 mobiles still alive.
The axolotl has just passed on.

As it turns out, the five goblins remaining had all somehow gone into the pantry, and it was clear they were not going to come out.

This was a situation that, for once, required brains over brawn. Spamton's tossing a lit brand into the pantry strategy was doomed to failure, but it gave Dara an idea.

She needed a container, gunpowder, and a lit brand. She tossed the container with the brand to the pantry and waited in the kitchen (along with Zedar and Spamton) for something to happen.

Dara the necromancess shouts" Time to bring an end to a mini-mobile convention!"

Dara the necromancess shouts "Wait for it!"

Time passed. There was no explosion.

Dara the necromancess shouts "In the words of Marvin the Martian, where's the kaboom?"

It became apparent that Dara was in such a hurry she forgot to throw in the gunpowder. She needed another container, and after a while, she decided to retrieve the dinghy from the treehouse in the redwoods where she'd stashed it, Resited to get back to the cottage quickly, and return to the kitchen.

Using the dinghy and another lit brand, she was prepared to do it right this time.

Dara the necromancess shouts "Okay, end of goblin party in pantry, take two!".

And soon, THIS happened:

*Spamton the guardian waits.
*Folly the warlock sings something.
Close by, you hear an incredibly loud >*B*O*O*M*<.
You feel as if a tremendous evil has been rid from The Land! No pawns of
darkness sully it with their presence. The relief of generations of souls
floods through your being!
(Persona saved on +3,000 = 32,999).
A male voice in the distance cheers.
*Folly the warlock cheers.
*Folly the warlock laughs.
*A male voice in the distance howls.
*Spamton the legend cheers.
*Thwomp the wayward wizard cheers.
*Folly the warlock has just left.
*A female voice in the distance cheers.
*A male voice in the distance shouts "woohoo".

Thwomp the wayward wizard shouts "Out with BANG!".

the hut".

After some more cheering and comments, Dara noted "This is a first. Never had the final showdown of a mobile bash take place in the cottage kitchen. ".

And so this, with 19 minutes remaining, the bash came to one of the most unusual bash finishes I've seen in a LONG time. In fact, I'd say it's THE most unusual bash finish I've seen, bar none.

Soon after, everyone returned to the tearoom for a fun-filled post-bash chat that lasted past the remaining 19 minutes and well into the set that followed.

All in all, a very fun bash with lots of surprises and twists and turns. Between the goblins, the redwoods, the rarely seen axolotl, and the incredibly loud >*B*O*O*M*< that concluded the bash, this was one of the more unusual bashes we've seen, and certainly a memorable one. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with it and with the post-bash chat that followed.

And so concludes the bash of August 29th, 2024, which shows us that even longtime players of MUD2 can still be surprised by things that happen in the game.
