If we will be getting lots of newbies I thought it might be more helpful to have people who volunteer to show them around, kind of "newbie helpers". The tour is cool but it is a little impersonal. If newbies come on while people are about, these newbie helpers, then it might be better to have them take the newbies about and show them the ropes rather than just a player volunteering.
Added to that idea, perhaps these specific helpers can recieve training on how to help newbies- what they are allowed to show and not show, mud etiquette, that sort of thing. I know people like to help newbies but with the right training we can help them even more.

Yep. Good idea! Maybe a roster for the mentors?
I'm hoping to put a feature into the client so that "mentors" can minimize the app and it will notify them when a newbie show up.

Excellent idea, Zordell. I'm sure we can arrange something to help. Lexley wrote a good article about helping newbies which might help too:

If i'm around and I see a name I don't recognise, or someone struggling around. I normally ask if they're new, and offer assistance.
If i'm around, I'll help

If I had my computer, I'd be donning a newbie-helping hat, you know I would .
